Can our electronic lifestyle be painful?

We live amongst a digital society where most communication is completed through our smart phones, iPads and laptops, our books are read on nooks and kindles, and our physical activity comes from Wii Fit and Xbox connect. While these devices are a form of convenience and efficiency they may be a source of pain and injury, according to physical therapists from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

AMERICA: Where art thou?

Does anyone remember the 1985 television special, “America: You’re Too Young To Die,” aired on a major network? This Life Action production changed the lives of many Americans. A free book, “The Rebirth of America,” was offered to all callers. Ronald Reagan’s words on the program encouraged our hearts.

WELCOMING: Time to appreciate heroes

This is in response to a resent complaint that I read in regard to a welcome home that our community put on for Army Sgt. 1st Class Brian Sharp. Brian was a Green Beret and was injured during a battle in Afghanistan and was then awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. On Aug. 30, the community flocked to the sides of I-90, on the bridges and down government way to welcome back this hero, because its men and women like him that protect our freedoms and allow us the opportunity to live such amazing lives.

HOUSING: Inflation blames goes to Joe

A lot has been said about how we can get affordable housing which of course would tie into affordable rentals. It’s certainly a fine and noble endeavor. The American dream has always been to own our own homes, raise our families in safe neighborhoods, barbecue in our backyards with relatives and friends — a place to call our own after a hard day’s work.

REGAN: Unite, rather than divide

Your Friday editorial is ironically self-describing, as you continue sowing division amongst our populace. Your 1984 quote was perfect, threading careful wording so we doubt our own observations.

DOUG O: Results, not rhetoric

Doug Okuniewicz should be our next Representative for District 2, Seat B. As former Chief of Police in Post Falls, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Doug on various community projects where we developed a close friendship. Doug is a true conservative. Please visit his website, voteDougO.com, to learn more about where he stands on important issues like being Pro-Life, reducing property taxes, stopping the criminal reentry center, and refugee relocation.

INJURED: Animal just left to suffer

A co-worker of mine made a call Thursday to Animal Control because we found an injured animal in our parking lot at work. She was told by Coeur d'Alene dispatch that someone would be out to check on the animal. I returned to work an hour later to make sure the animal had been taken care of, but it was still lying in a bush in our lot. I called Coeur d'Alene dispatch back to see when Animal Control would be coming out. I was asked for our office address, and then was told that Animal Control got off duty at 5 p.m. (the original call was made at 5:15 p.m.), and that they would return to duty at 8 a.m. the next day and would respond to the call.

BANKS: Let them pay fair share too

Two months ago in report No. GAO-11-696, page 131 (Government Accountability Office) was an acknowledgement that our government, Republicans and Democrats, fed $16 trillion to the banks. OUR tax money! That's enough to finance Saturday mail deliveries for 5,000 years.

PSSST: Someone is lying, America

America is broke? Oh, really? Golly gee, how can that be; we're the richest nation on Earth - and we're broke? Quantum physics aside, is it possible to be in two places at the same time? Not in my world, so the obvious question must be asked: Who's lying; because somebody sure is? I smell a really big con job and the American people are the intended victims. But hey, maybe Abe Lincoln was wrong? Maybe you can fool all of the people all of the time?

MICA'S LEGACY: Known for his outstretched hand

I am one of the many people in our community who has been fortunate enough to be touched by the words of kindness, words of hope and the generosity of Milic' Milojevic's outstretched hand (known by many as Mica').
