Glassware

Here at The Dinner Party we frequently get the question, "Does glassware really make that much of a difference in the taste of wine?" In short, you bet it does. However it does not need to cost a fortune to purchase glassware that will enhance the aromas and flavors of your wine.

A summer full of French whites

We have frequently talked about how wine tastes change with the seasons, richer more full bodied wines appeal in the fall and winter, and generally speaking as the weather warms folks prefer lighter bodied reds and crisper whites. This summer has been really warm (we are not complaining!) we love summer and the warm days when the mild temperatures stretch into the evening. To go with this warm weather we have seen huge demand for dry roses and crisp white wines, and fortunately the weather has coincided with a great influx of lovely, light bodied, crisp and zippy French white wines.

Tasting with an old Friend

Around since 1995 Walla Walla Vintners continues to be one of the most popular wineries, producing some of the most popular red wines from the Northwest. The ageing of white wines

Many stereotypes and assumptions are based in fact. Some are not. The assumptions that white wines are not age worthy would fall into the latter category. The determination of how well any wine ages has virtually everything to do with how the wine is made and the grapes are harvested not the color of the wine or even the varietal selection.

Our Thanksgiving recommendations

We almost always have Thanksgiving at our home. It is one of those meals I love to cook and an occasion when Mary always creates a beautiful “tablescape.” The coziness of the cool fall day, the celebration of a purely American holiday, and a meal steeped in tradition but with ample breadth for creativity are the perfect backdrops for a real “lifestyle” celebration. Here are our recommendations for Thanksgiving.

Familiar, yet always innovative

The lines of food and wine are always intersecting, and in the best of circumstances they do so in wonderful ways. For most wine lovers it is just impossible to reflect on their favorite food and dining experiences and not factor in that bottle they had that paired perfectly. A recent restaurant experience just cemented this notion for me, and I think will do so who make the worthwhile trip to visit this great venue.
