I find recent city actions quite confusing. Do I have this right? With the McEuen Park project (estimated to cost up to $40 million) the council chose not to have a public vote. A few months later, the state is offering to give the city five miles of lake front and enough cash for 20 years of maintenance costs. The city now feels it needs a public vote on this offer. What am I missing here?

The City of Hayden Arts Commission is calling on artists to submit designs to spruce up the city’s utility boxes. Applications must be sent to clerk@cityofhaydenid.us by 5 p.m. Nov. 30. Submissions should be in a digital format large enough for commissioners to see; files cannot exceed 20 MB. Selected artists will be paid $300. The commission will meet in December to make the selection.
