All olive oils are not created equally

One of the key ingredients to a long and healthy life is olive oil. For years dietitians have been promoting the use of olive oil as a heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. Because of its rich source of tocopherols, carotenoids and polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties olive oil has been shown to provide cardiovascular and anti-cancer effects. Italy, Spain and Greece are the major producers of olive oil and it is the principal source of dietary fat in these countries. But not all olives or olive oils are created equally.

Don't dash to buy RFID-blocking gear

Radio-frequency identification is a nifty technology that uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. The tags store data electronically that special readers can pick up. These systems are used in tons of industries; you’re probably most familiar with toll tags for your car and implanted “chips” that can identify a pet. Both employ this useful idea, which goes by the shorthand RFID.

HEALTH: A step in right direction

Audacious! After the Supreme Court decision, President Obama said the health care plan was not done for political reasons, but because it was the right thing to do. It’s ironic that Obama’s health care plan was first introduced by Romney, who is now attacking it. People with a pre-existing condition can now get health care, there is no dollar limit, and our children can stay on our insurance until the age of 26. It provides affordable medication for the elderly.

Even in ordinary times, the 200,000 of unpaid family caregivers in Idaho face a daunting set of daily tasks. Oftentimes with little or no training, they may be responsible for wound care, tube feedings, dressing, managing the finances and medical bills of their loved ones, transportation and more.

Seeking an improved economy to pull U.S. out of rabbit hole

The "rabbit's hole" by definition is a bizarre, difficult situation or state. That is precisely where we find ourselves economically today. The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Fed's committee that makes key decisions about interest rates and the nation's money supply, has been overly optimistic in its expectation for U.S. growth since the last recession that ended in 2009. If its annual targets had been realized over the past four years, the U.S. economy should have been approximately 6 percent or $1 trillion larger.
