Cd'A school board chair issues statement
Tom Hearn released the following statement to media today regarding he and other school officials' handling of a citizen's request that the district update its policies to include protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Earning an 'F' for school taxes
After reading the letter from Mrs. Grossard from Athol in regards to school taxes, my wife and I are in the same boat. We are in the process of selling our home, not because we want to, but we can’t afford to live in Coeur d’Alene with the tax increases on a fixed income.
Community Thanks May 22, 2011
PARTY: Local businesses help
LEVY: District provides details
Jacqueline Mayo asked questions in Friday's Press about the Coeur d'Alene School District. We would like to be sure that Ms. Mayo and others are aware of facts that have been made public, including information previously published in the Coeur d'Alene Press.
SENIORS: Home away from home
Everyone should have a place they can call their second home. Especially if you are a senior in this day and age when we do not get raises in Social Security and everything else seems to be beyond our reach money-wise. I have found our Lake City Senior Center a place to go for meals, meet with buddies and enjoy ourselves with all of the extra activities offered by this facility.
OPINION: Welcome, but don't try to change us
This is an open letter to those of you who have arrived in Idaho since 2019. Welcome. You have arrived in a sanctuary state, not like the sanctuary cities from which you escaped that were sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, but a sanctuary for freedom loving, community-spirited people eager to live and let live and help a neighbor in need.
An iceberg? In Kootenai County?
Yes, the Coeur d'Alene region has an iceberg.
Op-Ed: KCRCC benefits our community
KCRCC benefit for conservative community
Op-Ed: Cd'A needs rescuing
Ah, local politics; our shared community's controversies that are an intimate part of our daily routine, deliberated with the warm goodwill expected between neighbors.
KEC: Toasting excellent service
We were just enjoying the evening, watching HDTV and surfing high-speed Internet when blam the lights go out. Suddenly our electric-centric life changed from glee to fear that we were going to freeze to death.
RECALL: City should listen to citizens
Coeur d’Alene, the “beautiful.” Please keep our McEuen Park free of commercial, money scams and tourist traps. We the people of Coeur d’Alene have stood up for our rights. Our voices heard, we live here and love it as it is.
Democratic Club sorry for snafu
Late Tuesday afternoon, Kootenai County Democratic Club President David Porter issued the following press release:
IRONMAN: Thanks to all volunteers
During Sunday’s Ironman competition I had the complete honor to interface with some of the best the community has to offer. True heroes braving the heat alongside all the athletes, willing to selflessly serve, encourage, and support us all as we pursued our quest of 140.6 miles.
LIVESTOCK: Treat more humanely
Idaho’s ag industry generally controls our legislature and our governor’s office. This control has led to the legal sanctioning of animal cruelty across the spectrum (livestock, domestic and wildlife). A tiny minority participates in abusing dairy cows, trapping wildlife, etc., but our representatives work tirelessly to protect these conscienceless few — in the name of profit and tradition.
ESPRESSO: Nudes, kids don't blend
Why are there espresso stand baristas working in a semi-nude state without being governed by adult entertainment laws in our community? Are parents aware that these stands serve anyone of any age? Are parents aware that their teenage daughters could work at such a place in a semi-nude state? Why are girls with cleavage and buttocks showing being allowed to serve coffee to minors in our community? This kind of business should not be allowed in a regular commercial business area. It should not be allowed on a main school bus route.
TRUMP: Fly first class
Many of the actions taken by our government against immigrant children and their families are in clear violation of U.S. and international law. But, according to Trump, these displaced and desperate people pose some kind of bizarre danger to us. If we don’t detain or deport them, they’ll be prowling our streets, just waiting for us to come outside. Product of a disturbed mind, but that’s our president playing his fear card again. He has a handful of cards from that same deck: Fear, Ignorance, Mosogyny, Misology, Bigotry.
FEDS: Refuse their money
As Idahoans we are proud of the fact that our budget is always balanced. Of course, it is a legal requirement. Still we work hard to get everything covered while balancing the budget at the same time.
SEARS: Honors service contracts
At Sears, our top priority is the satisfaction of our customers. It’s important that our current and future customers understand that certain claims made about Sears’ business by the Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls Press and Bill Brooks in its front-page story from Feb. 5 were false, misleading and damaging.
DARK: Doesn't mean sex offender here
Oh great! Now if our porch light is off tonight our neighbors will be wondering if we’re sex offenders? What if we’re not home? If we’re sick or invalids? If our religion doesn’t recognize Halloween? If we don’t have money to buy candy? Why couldn’t you just have suggested that trick-or-treaters not approach houses without porch lights on as safe and courteous?
ELECTION: Hang your head, Idaho
Only 37 percent voted in the state of Idaho. Those too lazy or who couldn’t care less should be very ashamed of yourselves. This state is heavily populated by veterans who served this great nation of ours and who help maintain that right to vote. I’m only one of those veterans, but I am so disgusted with those of our citizens who just set back and complain about our government and don’t have the will to do anything about it.
