CDA: Great job keeping lake clean

On behalf of the Coeur d’Alene Lake Collaborative, we would like to express our appreciation to the city of Coeur d’Alene and their Parks and Streets Departments for their dedicated efforts in cleaning up the fallen trees from our last wind storm a month ago.

INTERNET: The need for speed

Thank you for your article in Thursday’s paper regarding TDS Metrocom coming to our area. I welcome the competition for Spectrum, and the potential to have higher speed internet extended to our home. I fully agree with DeAnne Boegli that our children need higher speed internet for school research; not having this ability hampers them from achieving their goals.

SCHOOLS: Levies aren't luxuries

School levies are a hot topic in our community. As adults, we pay taxes, plain and simple. If I must pay taxes, I am happy that part of those dollars go toward supporting schools, our next generation, and our grossly underpaid teachers.

PIKE: A bassinine decision

The geniuses at our Coeur d’Alene Tribe and Fish and Game departments teamed up to turn our warm water, weedy southern end of Lake Coeur d’Alene into a cold water cutthroat fishery. They are going to throw gill nets down and kill as many pike as possible. Unfortunately, gill nets don’t discriminate. Largemouth will be wasted in devastating numbers.

LAKELAND SCHOOL LEVIES: Vote yes

Lakeland shows up for its people. It shows up for its school events, its city events, its charity events. It even shows up when tragedy strikes. A funeral director once told us, “Lakeland shows up for its funerals.” It means Lakeland residents are not afraid of the hard stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, the sad stuff. It means that people rally for each other in good times and in bad.

SCHOOL LEVIES: Student urges support

As vice chair of the district’s Student Advisory Group and a junior at Lake City High School, I want to respond to the opposition against the Coeur d’Alene School District’s upcoming levies.

CRT: A default ideology

We have recently heard about the Legislature passing HB 377 and the governor signing it.

SLAVERY: The real history

This country was started not because everyone in it was perfect but because a few great men decided that living under another country’s rules and taxation without representation was no way to live.

WIDMYER: One magnificent mayor

Now election season is over and we head into the holidays, it is time to reflect on the good in our lives and to show appreciation to those that have made our community strong.

FREEDOM TO VOTE: Not in presidential primary

Writing to Pat Bethke’s letter regarding freedom to vote rather than appoint people. For some positions appointing qualified, responsible people in non-political positions is better than following the Brent Regan and Associates choices. The KCRCC and the state Republican party have taken away our freedom to choose who can participate in the Primary in May.

TRAILS: Tale of the ale

Bill Buley’s front page article on the Centennial Trail was awesome and so true. Many of our fundraising events were mentioned and one more must get highlighted, our annual Ales for the Trail, as it is the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation’s biggest fundraiser for the year.

GOVERNMENT: It's forgotten its role to the people

What is the government's role in our lives? This is an ongoing debate that appears to be fueling the oncoming November elections.

TV: Experience not a tasty dish

We recently moved from one Hayden residence to another Hayden residence. We were advised by The Dish Network that they would move us free. We made the move and to our surprise the technician from Dish could not get a signal at our new location. Since we could not get a signal from The Dish Network we decided to use another provider.

RALLY: Ode to elk and deer

Besides devastating our elk herds, killing livestock and now limiting our hunting seasons because of the shortage of animals, what has the wolf population done to be “honored?” Give me a break.

COUNCIL: Hell, here we come

Thank you City Council of Coeur d’Alene for opening the floodgates to hell by adopting a city ordinance that promotes a lifestyle to sin. With the exception of Steve Adams once again you have voted against the majority, the citizens of our beautiful city, who were against the need for the discrimination ordinance. Perhaps now we can change our title from the “Beautiful City by the Lake” to “Sin City by the Lake.” You should be ashamed of yourselves voting for the minority to promote their agenda. You have opened a can of worms. You have taken our rights from us and given special rights to a few where no major problem exists. The future you have opened for us is more crime, immorality and no protection for our children.

VISITOR: Honesty in Cd'A

I just want to thank a very honest person! We were in the city on Sunday and went for a walk in the park. I did not want to pack my purse, so I removed my wallet and away we went. When we returned to our car, the keys were tucked into the windshield wiper. I must have dropped them as I got out of the car! I am so thankful to the honest people who left our car and belongings alone and left our keys where we could find them! I am also thankful no one else decided to take our car while we were enjoying your beautiful park! Thank you, thank you!

MILLIE: Transplant operation failed

I am intrigued by Millie Hayes’ desire to continue to incite the residents of North Idaho, Post Falls in particular. I have lived in Kootenai County all of my life and have many friends who came here from California (I don’t hold that against them) and they are very thankful to be able to enjoy our peace of heaven. There are those transplant folks, like Millie, who whine and complain about our weather and our lack of giant chain stores to shop in and our podunk country attitudes which begs the question: WHY ARE YOU HERE MILLIE HAYES?

LEVY: Reasons to vote against

Our public schools have again asked us for a levy. Again, they are claiming they need it to improve our schools. There is no doubt our schools need improvement. Idaho is near the bottom in schools around the nation. However, they have asked for money to improve the schools many times before, and we have said yes every time, but there has been no improvement.

Sculptra: Is it right for you?

As we lose volume, the boney structures of our face become more prominent. This process makes our facial features become hardened as we lose the softness of youthful volume. As facial volume loss progresses throughout the decades, we begin to see hollowing in the temples and the area in front of our ears below our cheekbones. This can be improved with the use of Sculptra.
