Recalling a 4-legged friend each spring

Food for Thought

This morning starts as most Sunday mornings, with a cup of coffee, the morning paper and CBS Sunday Morning on the television. Relaxing in my PJ's sitting in my man-chair, I finish my second cup of coffee then look out the window of my living room to take the pulse of what the day has to offer. The weather on this drizzly, spring day decides fishing with my grandchildren is out and yard work in a raincoat will be the task of the day.

STORM: That was a tornado

I read your front page article concerning some houses in the  Hayden Lake area that were damaged by the abrupt windstorm last week.  I can say that here in Dalton Gardens, I was out after 8:30 p.m., I was putting up some rebuilt metal shelves to store as extra shelf space in my new green house.  I noticed that clouds coming out of the west were particularly fast moving.  It had been real calm as to the wind until those clouds came very swiftly overhead.  Then in a matter of minutes, especially when I went to feed the dogs, the wind had become particularly strong and had a whirling sound in it.  A very fast whirling sound.  I also saw a low hanging giant wedged-shaped cloud over the hills.  It was, by that time to the southeast.  But it wouldn't surprise me that it had come over the Hayden Lake area.  Tornadoes are known to move pretty erratically.  And this definitely looked like and further sounded like a tornado.  The wind was loud enough that even my mother heard it and thought it was "cars traveling in front of the house"  or rain.  And had soon come out to see what was going on.

Cd'A: Welcome to Ferguson

I am proposing that the name of Coeur d’Alene be changed to Ferguson. Ours is the most recent city to find a white police officer guilty of murder. This time a black dog. That qualifies us to make the citizens of Coeur d’Alene a racist city! I never thought that Coeur d’Alene residents or The Press would buy into a mob mentality that was to be spread by mob violence and the general press. Has no one ever been frightened by a dog? I would suggest each of us has been at one time or another in our life!

Summer is time to run the dog or exercise

Running the dog is what we call getting the dog some exercise during the summer months because his workout regime has been similar to an average college student on spring break.

A poodle in the field is worth a ton of mutts in the bush

His dog chased squirrels like nobody’s business, and for a squirrel hunter walking from woodlot to woodlot in pursuit of the big gray or red-colored fox squirrels, any dog that was wild about pointing tree tops, stalking and fervently retrieving to hand the small upland game, was hard to beat.
