As I look at the COVID-19 pandemic and the meltdown of our world, I realize how quickly our lives can turn on a dime — through no fault of our own. But we are part of the world and we still have to deal with it all. It is surely not a time to panic or be overcome with fear or be obsessed with what might happen or not happen. It’s probably not a good time to sell our stock but a great time to buy.
ENEMIES: Don't give them aid
Who is in charge of our safety and the allegiance we have for our friends in the Mediterranean? Why would we give our most sophisticated fighters, F-16s, and 200 of our finest tanks to a country (Egypt) that is not clearly our friend, not to mention the billions of taxpayer $$$ we send them (Egypt)?
GOD: He's clearly on GOP's side
Don’t ever forget, our God is still on His throne. The Bible says that God lifts up kings (presidents) and He takes them down. We don’t always understand His ways, but President Obama and all the rich people who are seemingly in control of our dear country CAN’T do anything that God in His wisdom doesn’t allow. We may be in for severe discipline for our ungodly ways, abortion, same sex marriage, immorality, etc. that we surely deserve, but never fear, God is still in control, and always will be.
EDITORIAL: Apology to our veterans
The image on the cover of the Veterans Day insert in our Nov. 11 edition of the Coeur d’Alene Press offended many, and we are deeply, deeply sorry for that.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Solutions suggested
Could there be any greater warnings than the status of our Kootenai County public schools? ‘Something is wrong with the System? (Sept. 26 in the Coeur d’Alene Press) Presently, a large percentage of our kids ‘graduate’ without needing to know how to ‘read?’ Most of our kids kids don’t need to know math, and they graduate from our local high schools? Now, virtually every student can graduate and nobody is held back? In spite of this, presently, about 20% of our youth are ‘driven’ to create futures and persevere through Advanced Placement classes and enter America’s universities. This can leave about 80% of our youth virtually unprepared for life.
LIONS: Scary good attendance
The Post Falls Lion’s Club would like to thank the local community for their attendance during our annual Halloween Haunted House. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and with it we are able to achieve our mission of helping our neighbors who have problems with sight and hearing. We are also able to provide scholarships to local students and contribute to other worthy causes.
CDA: Schools offer thanks
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank our voting public for their overwhelming support in our recent Maintenance & Operations Levy and Construction Bond elections. We are both appreciative of and humbled by the public’s trust in our work as we grow and, as our mission states, that we INVEST in each student to prepare, challenge and advance well-educated, resilient and future-ready citizens.
ANNIVERSARY: Thanks to couple who paid for meal
My bride of 38 years and I decided to have our anniversary meal at Syringa this evening (July 21).
THANKS: Vets get free breakfast
On our way to the Medal of Honor Highway Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, July 25, in St. Maries we decided to stop for breakfast at the Broken Egg in Coeur d’Alene. In our Marine Corps League Dress Uniform, enjoying our meal and discussing the events of the day, our waitress came to the table and informed us that our breakfast had been paid.
BUDGET: Balance sends right message
I pray we will have the wisdom to pass a balanced budget amendment this year. Our politicians mean well but because of the complex political D.C. environment, it's impossible for our good politicians to stop the freight train of government over-spending. Most of our Congressmen would be so grateful if U.S. citizens would band together and demand Congress pass an amendment to stop the madness.
CDA SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes
I urge our community to vote yes on the Coeur d’Alene school levy on May 16. The future of our local schools and our children’s development depend on it. Without the levy, our schools will lose critical funding for athletics, advanced placement programs and music, and four elementary schools will face closure.
ELECTION: Why nonpartisan works
Theodore Roosevelt, our 26th president, said it best: “A vote is like a rifle: its usefulness depends upon the character of the user.”
Reverse nation's pitiful decline
What could be more disturbing and disheartening than to watch our culture and our nation in decline? There is no doubt that we are in decline in so many areas and in so many ways.
On time
We invest our time everyday for a myriad of things: work, play and a constant litany of choices. Our time becomes our choices. Our choices then define our life. We see it play out so clearly in the rear view mirror of our life, our choices. But how do we do a better job at choosing, so we do not have to look backwards so often to see what worked and what didn't work at all?
Anchor House is changing, not closing
We're not closing our doors! The Idaho Youth Ranch is committed to North Idaho. For over 30 years our organization has been helping youth from this area through Anchor House, our family counseling services, Adoptions Program and at our Ranch. We have a history of adapting our programs as community needs change and that's our situation now. We're here to stay - we're simply changing our treatment focus at Anchor House.
Thanks to the city of Coeur d'Alene
As a fourth generation Coeur d'Alene resident and parent of two young sons, I am very thankful for the many accomplishments our community has witnessed and enjoyed over the past decade. Our city's leaders have had impressive vision and courage to create and implement the many incredible developments and amenities our community will embrace for generations.
MILITARY: Athletes are treated better
I believe our military should be better taken care of than our football players and In this day our military is not.
Just the facts
Special to The PressThe breathtaking state funding cuts that have occurred over the last two years have permanently changed the face of our public schools. In four days we will face the most important financial decision ever for our schools.
TREASON: Alive and well in U.S.
Americans just don’t get it. The Constitution defines treason as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Refusing to secure our borders and shores while scattering our military over the globe to fight wars arranged by bankers and religious nuts is an act of treason. Spending billions bribing foreign politicians to pretend cooperation while ignoring the needs of our veterans and seniors is an act of treason. Attempting to disarm the American populace is an act of treason. Taxing and regulating our industries to the point that they shut down or move away is an act of treason. Our worst enemy is not the most obvious. It is the cabal of foreign bankers who control the Federal Reserve and all their cohorts in the Congress. Our younger voters don’t have a clue as to what is going on because they have not had any instruction on how government works. That is the result of allowing unions and politicians to control our education system. It is time for a huge shakeup.
