BUDGET: Balance sends right message

| January 19, 2011 4:17 AM

I pray we will have the wisdom to pass a balanced budget amendment this year. Our politicians mean well but because of the complex political D.C. environment, it's impossible for our good politicians to stop the freight train of government over-spending. Most of our Congressmen would be so grateful if U.S. citizens would band together and demand Congress pass an amendment to stop the madness.

Let's support our politicians and give them the legal mandate they need to save our county from threat of financial ruin. When an amendment is passed whereby Congress cannot spend more than 1.2 times our GDP (except for times of war or emergencies), it would signal foreign countries that the U.S. plans to make good on our debt - an act that would have very positive U.S. economic consequences. It would likely be the single greatest message we could send to strengthen global consumer confidence and lead our country and the world out of its current financial problems.

An amendment will not happen without us raising our voices, calling and writing our congressmen. Let's make this our No. 1 New Year's resolution!
