Trustees say proposed transition to nonprofit is necessary to thrive as regional medical center

Several Kootenai Health trustees reiterated their support on Thursday for the hospital district to transition from being government-owned to a nonprofit, while one said he opposed it. “We are here for one purpose and that’s to maintain health services for Kootenai Health at the highest standard available,” said Trustee Katie Brodie. About 75 people attended the informational meeting at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn. Trustees did not take questions from the audience, but answered written questions from a moderator.

The Community Library Network board of trustees has had quite a lot of letters this month. Due to the timing, it seems likely inspired by a Coeur d'Alene Press Aug. 1 My Turn full of malinformation. I feel it’s my duty to correct that inaccurate information, and other misinformation circulating in our community. It seems there’s a concerted propaganda campaign to turn citizens against the CLN trustees, so in future elections, voters will oppose conservatives. Instead of ingesting propaganda, I would encourage citizens to attend and/or watch the YouTube videos of CLN board meetings to see the truth for themselves versus accepting lies.

After watching the school board, with some interest, for the last several months, I am pleased with the actions of the two new members. It is great to finally see some independent thought emerge from that panel. There are several things that have caught my eye and foremost is the challenge of the appointment of Ms. Quinn to the board.

Groups call for NIC president to be reinstated

North Idaho College faculty and staff issued votes of no confidence in the board of trustees this week. Separate resolutions passed by both bodies contend that the board is failing to support the college’s mission and call for NIC President Nick Swayne to be immediately restored to his role after trustees placed him on administrative leave last week.
