On health care's cliff: More meds isn't necessarily good medicine

There’s a pill for every ill.

PILLOWS: Support comeback kid

I’m so sorry but are you kidding me? Are we really going to stand by and let the far left dictate who we buy our pillows from?

CONTEST: For wealthy babies only

The Coeur d’Alene Press recently held a Cutest Baby Contest that required a $10 entry fee per baby photo. Each person was allowed one free vote per day. However, if you paid additional money you could buy up to 200 extra votes per day.

SCHOOLS: Return taxpayer dollars

Hold on before you divide up all the “extra” school funds! We, the people and YOUR neighbors, who are underemployed, formerly retired and going back to work, facing exponential health insurance premiums, increasingly levied and taxed and selling our possessions to buy food, are tired of robbing what little savings we have, that is our home values, to pay “desperate levies” and “emergency levies” only to find out that 89 percent of the levies go to salaries and there was no emergency, only an insistence of receiving more pay. After you REDUCE our levies, teach at least five hours per day, and accept similar medical insurance that your neighbors have, should we yield the extra funds.

WOLF: Follow spirit of the law

You have got to be kidding me! A man (Mr. Mize) shoots a wolf in protection of his dogs. He knows he does not have a license, so he buys one after the fact. The state got their money.

LEVY: The cost of inefficiencies

Coeur d’Alene School District spends 92 percent of its budget for salaries with more than 50 percent support staff, so is seeking levies totalling $2.39 per $1,000 of home valuation.

CAMERON: A shopping suggestion

Please, Mr. Cameron. If I do not wish to buy foreign products, I can choose not to. No one is forcing me to drink Molson, drive a VW, or pay to see an Ironman exhibition. Electrical power, however, is a sine qua non (look it up). Unless I am an independent survivalist living off the grid, I and millions like me need to subscribe to a public utility. And a public utility must be accountable to its American citizen subscribers.

AVISTA: Against the merger

Avista Sale to Hydro One: I would like to add a thought to the article printed on May 9. Mr. Singleton does not address that when we lose control of our source of power, it will have an effect on our factories and our homes. Cost of goods we buy, as well as the power for our homes will go up. We will not be able to enjoy the freedom to complain as we have today. Our utilities commission will not be able to protect us. As Mr. Singleton points out, we will be under the laws of a foreign country.

MONEY: Take stimulus challenge

I think we can all agree that the U.S. government is good at wasting taxpayers’ money.

TRUMP: Honest, not racist

Normally, I don’t waste my time responding to the left-wing garbage spewed in The Press, but between Steve Cameron and David Adler, I see no choice.
