VIRUS DIARY: The world seemed small and accessible. No more.
WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time in years, we’ve put our suitcases away. Flights have been canceled. The shared Google calendar where we tracked each other’s travel schedules is empty for the foreseeable future.
Finding My Way: Who we are
It’s said that a crisis brings out the best and worst in people. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to test that theory, but we’re testing it now.

Keep the home fires burning
Happy holidays, everybody! This is a joyous time of year. We celebrate Christmas with bright colored lights and festive decorations and are with family and friends during this holiday season. Our children enjoy the long-awaited Christmas vacation from school and are excited about opening their presents that are under the tree. They make Christmas time very special for us.
ADVERTISING: Advertorial — One great night
Mary and I had the rare opportunity to get away for a week at this time of year.
MY TURN: Response to Regan
Response to Brent Regan’s Opinion, Friday, Aug. 11: America’s strength is tied directly to its equity and diversity. Equality of opportunity does not exist without equity. If you doubt this, consider the struggle that women continue to have had for equity in this county. A people cannot easily be unified toward a singular goal when great disparities exist — sex, education, income, ethnicities, race, societal and social standing, creed, et al. Recognizing and celebrating our differences makes all Americans stronger, not fractured groups as Mr. Regan would lead us to believe.
C1 My Turn: NIC trustees on the right track
Banducci, McKenzie and Barnes doing what most people want them to do.
Op-Ed: Unclear words can cause war
Did an American cause the Korean War?
ADVERTISING: Advertorial — Napa: The wines
The feedback from our series of columns on our trip to Napa has been truly rewarding.
Ice, de-ice, baby!
One of the many perks of North Idaho is the four defined seasons we get to experience every year. Spring brings us flowers and sunshine, summer brings us long days full of adventure, in fall we watch the leaves change, and in winter we enjoy a multitude of snow sports. The challenges of winter, though, include walking and driving conditions.
OPINION: Don’t be conned by the Con-Con
We are of different parties and often disagree, but are allied in our fierce devotion to America’s Constitution. It is now under serious threat from well-meaning people who seek a Constitutional Convention.
OPINION: Are you a North Idaho Republican?
Here's what North Idaho Republicans believe.
MY TURN: The facts about Prop 1
There’s a lot of misinformation circulating about the Open Primaries proposition (Prop 1) that will be on the ballot in November. Most of the accusations, including those printed in opinion letters in the Coeur d’Alene Press, are made without any evidence or facts to back them up. So, let’s look at the facts.
HOUSE: History being razed
Regarding the Hamilton House, this news literally makes me sick to my stomach.
MOON: Not high on priority list
Newt's 2020 moon colony proposal. Before we do that we have a lot of things to do on our planet, in America, for example rebuild our streets, bridges, factories, high-speed trains, plus 1,000 other urgently needed projects. The moon can wait a little longer. It will not go anywhere.
SCHOOLS: A sound investment
Please turn out and vote “YES” for the upcoming Coeur d’Alene Public School’s M & O Levy and Bond being held on March 14th. The youth of our community are our future and we need to invest in them.
CONCEALED: What the...
As of today, a concealed carry permit will no longer be required to carry a concealed weapon in our great state of Idaho. I have but one question for our political representatives. Why can’t we legally smoke what y’all be smokin?
LAKELAND: You're great sports
I just wanted to give a big Thank You to Lakeland High School and their community! They treated our high school team, Skyview, with great respect. Their fans were friendly and welcoming. Your high school has great spirit and gave our boys a good challenge. Thanks for a fun game to watch!
PRESS: Shine light on young achievers
I just had to tell you how refreshing it’s been to open our Coeur d’Alene Press and find wonderful articles on the achievements of our local youth.
