PRESS: Bombed Dec. 7 story

Saturday was the anniversary of Pearl Harbor bombing on Dec. 7, 1941. Thousands were killed … beginnings of thousands and thousands of Americans left their homeland and families to protect our peoples. Yet NO mention in our local newspaper! Shameful.

BORDERS: COVID craziness

The United States is not letting Canada citizens into the country at our northern borders because of COVID concerns but it’s a free for all at our southern borders with an explosion of COVID.

We have always had change

I am 88 years old; I was born in the aftermath of World War I. Since that time I have witnessed many changes, some good, some bad. I have seen nations rise and fall, Germany, Russia, Italy, China and North Korea to name a few. Their demise all caused by turmoil from within, not from the final battles but from human ideology that started at leadership level. This ideology was called "change," and it came in many forms most of it designed to sell to the public mind. It didn't matter if the public mind understood the change; it was just important that it was "change." The reason for "change" was usually blamed on the faults of previous presidents, governmental bodies, agencies, you name it, but always it had to be "change."

VANDAL FOOTBALL: Vandals meet, chat ahead of start of fall camp

With fall camp scheduled to begin on Friday, the Idaho football team met via Zoom for a players-only meeting last week, their first as a team due to precautions taken due to COVID-19.

HANKS LAW: Foundation A-OK

On Jan. 8, a letter to the editor was posted regarding our foundation, Hanks Law Foundation. The letter stated basically that the foundation and its governing body, Jennifer Peacock and Dakota Goin, had engaged in “deceptive or misleading solicitations.” Neither the foundation nor its governing body engaged in any such activity. To clarify, the statement below is the response received from the Attorney General’s office. Our focus has always been to change Idaho laws to better protect our domestic animals. It is this endeavor we have strived to accomplish and will continue to do so.

I was one of the students who saw the wolves. Those wolves were born in captivity and they had the wolves on a choke chain and leash. They made sure that those wolves knew humans and were used to human hands.

While there's no easy solution for turning the tide on the winter blues, evidence is showing that knitting and crochet can improve your mood and help battle depression. In one study of more than 3,500 knitters published in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, 81 percent of respondents with depression reported feeling happy after knitting. More than half reported feeling 'very happy.'

Fireworks in the Coeur d’Alene area have gone WAY overboard! It’s hard to believe that our right to enjoy peace and quiet in our neighborhoods can be invaded suddenly by shockingly loud bursts of noise and vibrations from fireworks. It seems fireworks have become all too common around the lake and that it’s alright to have private, unannounced displays at any time — for weddings, parties, company celebrations or any other excuse! Most of us are aware of how disturbing this is to our domestic pets, so, what kind of reaction must wildlife have to these frightening, unescapable explosions of light and percussion?
