PROTESTS: A counter-proposal

In the view of many, it seems, the pandemic here on Earth is all pretense. The frightening number of deaths, just so much play-acting carried to the extreme. But all this fuss over nothing does impact these non-believers, nonetheless. And so what do they do?

Utilizing property search technology Neighborhood of the Week

Finding the ideal home can be challenging enough. Add frigid temperatures and snowy conditions into the mix, and it’s easy to see why people delay their real estate plans until spring.

A review of Woodhouse Wine Cellars

This past weekend we held a winemaker dinner and also a tasting with Woodhouse Wine Cellars and Jason Colyer. As retailers and as consumers we are always looking for a consistent producer of well priced and good wines that does a number of different things by meeting varying tastes and a desire for a range of varietals. Look no further, Woodhouse provides exactly that range of quality, variety and gentle pricing. After the events we were even more impressed than we were when we scheduled them.

MY TURN: The people deserve tax transparency at the gas pump

As gas prices continue to surge, who do we blame?

December 4, 2010 8 p.m.

Who really are the economic bad guys?

This is in response to the two My Turn "who done it; blame game" columns by Ms. Gressler and Mr. Ciruso. First, I am not a fan of either party's message framing techniques. Over the past 54 years, as a voter, I have tried not to succumb to becoming a fanatical party liner of either the Democrat or Republican persuasion. I am completely repulsed by the cheap, shallow, shady, unintelligent name calling hype promoted by both party campaign's enthusiasts who blindly support their party's causes. They have forgotten about considering truth, reason and common-sense values in determining who should lead this country.

Headed toward a good finish

With one month left in 2012 we are pleased to see a sustained recovery in the real estate market. A review of our November statistics provides evidence that we are closing in on our best year since 2007 - the last year before the North Idaho market fell. We have already passed the year end totals of each of the subsequent years and have a month of data left to add to the 2012 totals.

Market grows in spite of low inventory

As of the end of March, production within the Coeur d’Alene Association of Realtors reported by our Multiple Listing Service was up 4 percent over this same time in 2016. This is for sales of site-built houses on less than 2 acres. In large part, the production is driven by new construction. As reported by our hardworking staff, the sale of newly constructed site-built homes shows an increase of 21.4 percent when compared to the end of March last year. This, with a grueling winter that was far more impeding than the prior.

PO'D: U.S. Postal Disservice

I rarely use the Post Office due to their shoddy service. There have been so many incidents of their incompetence in the last couple of years I have started to use the services of a Postal Plus in Dalton Gardens on Government Way.

Your perfect Christmas wine

Like we always say the wine you choose for your holiday gatherings is very personal like all things wine related. What you and your family like, what you will be serving, whether it is a full blown dinner or just a party where wine will be served as an aperitif all influence your tastes and decisions. There are some standard main courses and appetizers though where classic pairings make the choices easier. Here are some of our favorites that we serve at this festive time of year.

HYPOCRISY: Think this over, gents

Regarding the issue of birth control coverage and religious employers, I thought the issue was having the employer groups OFFER the option of contraceptives, then the employee could make the choice of whether or not to take them. It is NOT forcing the employee to buy or use the birth control — it would be a choice. However, as we see over and over again, any kind of choice for women is a really, really bad word for the conservative right (wrong) in any context.
