Why America will not fail to accept the results of this election

Whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton wins the presidential election this year, America will accept the results of the election.

The wines that make you go ahh…

I recently returned from a weeklong business trip, and the first night home as I was cooking dinner, I walked through our home and sighed, “Ahh,” thinking it is always good to get back home. There are wines for all wine consumers that elicit the same reaction, that feeling of comfort and familiarity, but something more too. Those aromas and flavors that take us back to our very favorite things about wine, and no doubt our favorite bottles, producers and varietals.

FOOLISH: Politicians no laughing matter

April Fools is one thing. Disrespect is another. You crossed the line with the front page picture/story of President Obama signing a bill for unlimited alcohol consumption. The people in our country need to quit poking fun at our elected officials. It isn’t a matter of partisanship. It is a matter of supporting our elected officials because they are elected and they are the leaders. How can we expect our country to grow and be strong with constant criticism and bad-mouthing?

THANKS: Exceptional effort, kindness

We would like to share how thankful our family is for our local first responders. On the morning of Friday, Sept. 28, our husband and father, Bill Hohenstreet, experienced a serious, unexpected medical emergency from which he, to our great sorrow, passed away.

SCHOOLS: Teachers prove their worth

Idaho public schools Superintendent Tom Luna isn't bothered that Idaho ranks 50th nationally in per student spending. His spokesperson, Melissa McGrath, said that spending does not always equal results. Her evidence is that Idaho students outperform students from states spending more.

LEVY: District has cut wisely

I can understand the general displeasure the public has for the inefficiency and irresponsible nature of our current government. I too am tired of, and disappointed in, our current (and former) elected officials. I know the best way to express that disappointment is by denying them the funds they request for whatever reason. However, the school levy we will be voting on next month does not deserve your protest vote. It is a necessity to our children and the future we all owe to them.

TEACHERS: Yes, we'll take that offer

I agree with Mr. Blake's letter. We should pay our teachers like other public servants. There would be a structured pay scale that included pay raises every two years just for sticking around, and we could expect the cost of living increases that the military receives almost every year as well. Since we are all college educated, our pay scale would be more like that of an officer than enlisted. We could also count on receiving additional pay for housing, food and clothing. Medical care would be free, or we could use the government provided health insurance (at no cost to us). When we marry, our medical benefits would go up, and so would our housing allowance. And after 20 years we could count on seeing 50 percent of our pay for the rest of our lives; 75 percent if we stayed around for 30 years.

LEVY: In the end, it's quality

Yes, it is time to get out and support our students on March 10, to renew the Supplemental Levy for the Coeur d’Alene School District. We have this invaluable opportunity to improve the quality of education for our children, who will become our future community workforce and leaders.

LEVY: Vote yes, and communicate

As an engaged parent in the Coeur d’Alene School District, I ask our community to vote YES for the March 10 Supplemental Levy. Approval of this levy is critical in maintaining programs our students value and expect.

ARTICLE: Key facts missing

In response to the May 7 article titled “High vaccination exemption rates at Idaho schools,” there are so many things wrong with the propaganda in this article it’s hard to know where to begin! But first, thank GOD that our state still allows exemptions, thank GOD that our rights as Americans to choose what we put in our bodies and our children’s bodies is still OUR CHOICE and illegal, immoral and unethical mandates are NOT our reality like they are in California.

OPINION: Vaccine is our best shot at keeping kids in school

Our main defense in ensuring the new school year is entirely in-person is the COVID-19 vaccine.

Teeth and Body: Both need to be clean!

Doctor of Oriental Medicine

As I look forward to my regular teeth cleaning this week, I wonder how it is that dentists have instilled in us so remarkably well how important it is to do this ritual. Not only do we understand the importance of regular dentist or hygienist deep cleaning, but our daily routines as well. We do our dental routine daily, without fail, and generally twice or more a day! We wouldn't dream of skipping it. We understand that if we don't take care of our teeth, they will rot, fall out or have to be pulled. We do this routine to safeguard our dental investment. Why don't we also apply that to our bodies?

Cd'A CHAMBER: Our members are our mission; we listened!

At the Coeur d'Alene Regional Chamber, we work hard to drive impact for our chamber members and for our community. We recently conducted a member survey asking for input to help select upcoming topics for our 2023 Upbeat Breakfasts. Research has shown that inviting members and/or employees to participate in shaping the direction of an organization not only has a positive impact on how they feel about the institution, it also has a direct impact on improving the level of participation.
