Man urges city to reduce Atlas Road speed limit to ease traffic noise
Sims called for the City Council to lower the speed limit on Atlas Road between Prairie and Hanley avenues, a flat, one-mile stretch, to 25 mph from 35 mph with about 100 homes on both sides. He said about 200 adults and children are being adversely affected by “loud and continuous noise from autos.” He turned in a petition with 45 signatures backing him up, and cited studies that show lowering speed limits is the “best and cheapest way to abate noise from autos.”

Boating access sites will be closed in May
The site at Hayden Lake Sportsman Park will be closed to all public access May 6-7, reopening on May 8. While closed, areas of damaged asphalt above the boat ramp will be patched and repaired. The site at the Clark Fork Driftyard will remain open during maintenance occurring May 5-9. Due to road and parking lot repairs, the area will only be accessible in high-clearance vehicles. Jerry “Deak” Rupinski passed away on March 13, 2025, at the age of 75, and went to be with family and friends that have passed before him and he is now in the arms of Jesus. Deak was born on December 4th, 1949, to Frank and Dorthy Rupinski in Pittsburgh, Pa. His given name was Gerald Duane Rupinski but he never liked it so he went by Deak and that’s what his family and friends would call him.

Reel dancing was a fine way to spend time in 1800s America. It was popular again Monday during an American Civil War reenactment at Lakes Middle School, where students lined up, faced each other and galloped two-by-two along the rows, dipping and diving through arm arches and clapping along as they gave the Boston Tea Party dance a whirl. “I love the hands-on," eighth grader Jonathan Mohr said. "It’s a lot more educational in my opinion."

Margaret Louise (Schorle) Parker-West, known to most as Maggie, died peacefully at home in the arms of her loved ones on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in Post Falls, Idaho, at the age of 91. Maggie was born in Orange County, Calif., on October 24, 1933, to Clifford and Florence Schorle.
