But the concept of a one-week stoppage during a high school sports season still seems a little weird, even though it’s been this way for years. You practice for a few weeks, play a few games ... then shut it down for a week. Then you gear up for the home stretch, the final six weeks of the spring season, then it’s on to summer vacation. Could you imagine a one-week break during the middle of the fall or winter high school sports seasons?

Lake City High School freshman Jordynn Walker, 15, has been having a blast singing at Gonzaga University's soccer, volleyball, baseball and basketball games. She performed the national anthem Saturday at the Women's NCAA Super Regional March Madness game before Oklahoma played UConn in the Spokane Arena.

There was little discussion at the budget-setting meeting Wednesday, other than some confusion by members over the difference between the new budget and the one that died on the Senate floor. The only change was a $100 reduction in the amount of money toward the seven new employees. JFAC voted 16-2 to approve the new budget. It will now go to the House and Senate floors.
