Vikings reunite in Cd'A
'Tis the season to reunite. This weekend there will be ample opportunity to reconnect with old friends, literally. On Friday my fellow old Vikings from Coeur d'Alene's class of 1970 will be mingling at Sherman Park, on the hallowed ground of the old Woolworth's. That night CHS class of 1985 will be meeting up at the Eagles and CHS class of 1980 will be on the deck at Parkside Towers. On Saturday the class of '70 will enjoy a catered dinner by Ekness (and yes, there are North Idaho beer balls on the menu!) in the gardens of the Roosevelt Inn, where many of our classmates attended elementary school. The class of '80 will be at the Eagles Saturday night and class of '85 is taking a cruise on Lake Coeur d'Alene until 8 p.m. Word has it that Post Falls High School's class of 1980 will be cruising Sherman Avenue on Friday night before their Saturday evening get-together at Moon Dollars.

Economy holds, but prices rise
Asked, "Economically, how will 2012 compare to 2011?" 28 percent of voters at CdaPress.com responded things will get worse. A surprising 48 percent say 2012 will be a better year. Yet it was the remaining quarter who pegged it, according to most economic predictions: 2012 will be about the same, with steadily slow growth measurable in inches rather than miles.

The current state of negotiant wine
A "dust up" in the wine blogosphere this week brought the subject of negotiant wine back to the front of our consciousness. Negotiant has two meanings here and in Europe. In Europe, any wine produced from grapes not owned by the winery and winemaker is referred to as negotiant. In other words, it is any non-estate sourced wine grape stock. Here in the United States, we refer to any wine purchased in bulk when the wine is completely manufactured and simply bottled by some entity other than the manufacturer as negotiant.

Volunteer Corner
I was on my way to my scheduled carpool day for the private school my daughter was in and was hit head-on by an oncoming car. This accident left me with deep tissue injuries, and after a year I had to permanently leave my job in pharmacy management to work part time at a trucking company, since this was a sedentary position. With a couple setbacks, I was unable to return to full time work for more than 17 months.

Home sales didn't freeze
Home loan interest rates increased slightly last week ticking up .04 percent on average. Experts predict another hike after the Fed’s December meeting next week where they are expected to raise the rate they charge lenders. That fact and the unknown outcome of the ongoing tax debates are compelling buyers and sellers alike to feel some sense of urgency. We’ll see how that plays out next month. For now, our real estate market is chugging along with low inventory and competition for detached single family homes on less than 2 acres of land. This large lot size allows us to factor in those homes in Dalton Gardens where the minimum lot size allowed is .90 acres.
