OPINION: Library sophistry
Children are born with an amazing capacity for learning. Through observation, exploration and mimicry infants are able to decode human behavior. By age two, most have begun to understand that certain noises relate to certain concepts and that by uttering those sounds in a specific sequence they can begin to control their environment. Mastering the complex mechanics of speech is done completely through iterative trial and error.
OPINION: TikTokTek
Persuasion, influence, marketing, campaigning, brainwashing, salesmanship, arguing, and The Art of the Deal, are all names for the age old process of convincing someone to see the world as you do. Some people are natural convincers while others have learned the skills. A few are so bad that they are an effective un-salesman, with a personality that drives others away.

Are there any holes in your estate plan?
Wills and trusts are typically changed over time as life circumstances, the state where you reside, or your desired outcomes change. It is actually the rare case where a person puts their estate plan together once and never changes it after that. What is important to understand however, is how to effectively and legally change your will or trust so that the changes are enforced per your wishes.

ANALYSIS: A social media danger to society
Part four: Manipulating behavior
The closed loop aspect of people being more accepting to views that are similar to their own than contrary ideas can lead to walled-off minds. Just like the 18th century pioneer who was not prone to considering any beliefs but his own. Such a padlocked mind often results in echo chambers: The beliefs of a group, churned inside but not outside this group, are further amplified and reinforced. Because the information is cloistered from rebuttal, even criticism, most of us are prone to seek out information that reinforces our existing views. Without encountering opposing views, these mental echo chambers can increase social and political polarization and extremism. That is the conclusion of many people who study human behavior.

A will by any other name … no, sorry they are actually not the same
Because attorneys seem to have a hard time making anything easy, several estate planning documents have similar and easy to confuse names, which adds confusion to an already complicated topic. Estate planning legal matters are already confusing enough, so it certainly does not help to have similar names for related but completely different documents. Today, let’s try to clear things up a bit with a review of the differences between a “Living Will” and a “Living Trust.”

Being creative with food
Food for Thought
Last summer I found myself in an unhealthy quick food quagmire. Life became busy and the food I ate, simple. With my garden two months from producing and my physical activity increasing, canned chili, frozen corn dogs, heat and serve pizza and an occasional blackened salmon Caesar became my diet. My belt tightened and my heart began to ache. As my palate entered culinary Siberia, anything salty and processed satisfied.
