McEUEN: Public should have say
Having just read that the City Council and the mayor are NOT going to allow a public vote on the McEuen project because they already represent the people is the last straw. This isn't the first time they have collectively pulled this stunt, which in every case, has major exposure to the taxpayer (you and me). We have a City Council and a mayor whose actions clearly don't represent the constituency that they were elected to represent, no matter what they say! They must represent "John Q Public," which is the general public, and not just the select inner circle on which they seem to focus. They have lost touch with reality and "we the people" they are suppose to represent.

EASTON: Clearly, it's best for boys
Even though the response at the Town Hall meetings was overwhelmingly AGAINST the sale of Camp Easton, the recent Scout Council “survey” amazingly states the majority are now in favor. The “survey” was a series of crafted questions designed to achieve a desired response. It essentially gave you two choices.
GNOSTIC: No, it isn't right
Dina Fish (Sept. 7) seems to have settled into a designer life. “I for one am Gnostic due to the fact that it’s right for me.” Not that it’s right, you understand, but it’s right for ME; right or wrong it’s what makes me comfortable. And small wonder — Gnosticism separates people into the select few who receive special knowledge (gnosis), a lower class who must be content with mere faith and the lowest class who are preoccupied with worldly cares. Fish has selected the highest class due to the fact that it’s right for her. A little ego showing there?
LEVY: Vote yes times two
Community support for our schools has been strong in the past, and in return the community has received quality schools with caring teachers. Unfortunately, a vocal dissatisfied group would like everyone to believe otherwise. Unsubstantiated facts are repeated so many times they become hard to ignore. Mr. Westgate recently asked for facts why anyone would support the upcoming levy, because none were available. This despite the fact the school district has a fact sheet available on paper and online. Maybe some would find this information unreliable since it was prepared by the district. Because Mr. Lovlyn in his letter said the facts were not clear, The Press ran a front-page article, School Taxes 101, with the facts from their investigation. This article clearly explained where the levy money will go, how much it will cost a homeowner and what we will lose if the levies do not pass. Included in their conclusion was the fact our district has some of the lowest school taxes in the entire state.

IMPACT: Return fees to people
So, impact fees are being returned after a disastrous endeavor to implement them. What could go wrong in this process? After all, Idaho law is clear when it states in the impact fee chapter, under the section of the law titled “REFUNDS:” “When a right to a refund exists, the governmental entity is required to send a refund to the property owner of record within ninety days after it is determined by the governmental entity that a refund is due.”
