There are a lot of thrift stores in North Idaho and they all do a lot of good serving our community. For instance, Hospice of North Idaho has one that helps provide a better quality of life during your last days, Humane Society has one that helps provide funds for animals, North Idaho Domestic Violence Center has a store that benefits women who are abused, Senior Center has one for activities and St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho has two: one in Coeur d’Alene and one in Post Falls, both provide the funds so we can operate 24 community services. It is fantastic to see our communities support these thrift stores because they all serve our friends, family and neighbors locally.

POLICE: Letter hits wrong target

I strongly disagree with Tim Herzog's criticism of our Post Falls Police Department. He contends that he is being singled out for not being in compliance with our city codes. He is either in compliance, or he is not. And that is totally a conscious decision on his part.

LEVY: Schools one key to good life

Please join me on Tuesday, March 10 in supporting our children, our schools and our community by voting YES on the renewal of the Supplemental Levy. Idaho is a wonderful state and Coeur d’Alene is one of her premier locations to live. Along with the natural beauty we all enjoy, excellent schools and successful kids are among the most basic foundations of our community and standard of living here in Coeur d’Alene.

FALLACY and OPINION: Often the same thing

Two letters in The Press contained false statements I would like to emphasize. These are from the first letter: 1. Biden has devastated our economy. 2. Public schools are indoctrination camps. 3. Teaching our children to hate our country and freedoms. 4. Defunded our police. 5. Made cities battlegrounds. 6. Demolishing the Second Amendment on the agenda. 7. Ranked voting has ruined our society. There is no evidence for these statements. They are opinions.

E Pluribus Unum: Out of many, one

In recent years, Coeur d'Alene has experienced several disturbing incidents of hate and harassment targeting underrepresented minorities. These incidents have included verbal attacks, and other forms of discrimination. A recent event occurred in McEuen Park, where youths from the Coeur d'Alene Tribe were verbally harassed. This incident underscores the ongoing presence of intolerance and bigotry in our community. Tragically, this vitriol seems to be the norm on social media, but our beloved community must consider holding itself to a higher standard.

Madison County Sheriff's Office implements new protocol and procedures

To better serve our community needs we are announcing a new set of procedures. We will be temporarily implementing these changes in order to follow the recommendations from the CDC and our local health care professionals. This is an effort to promote social distancing and protect everyone in our community by preventing the spread of the novel corona virus, COVID-19.

SOLDIERS: Take care of our own

Wounded Warriors Project? Where in hell is the government that sent them into harm’s way? If we can’t take care of our own, why are we spending billions bribing foreign politicians to pretend cooperation and giving illegal aliens free health care, education and welfare cash? Why are our borders and shores wide open while our military is scattered over the globe fighting wars arranged by bankers, Big Oil and religious nuts? Why does our military go into battle with Rules of Engagement that prevent them from winning? There is a lot of lowlife in the District of Corruption that should be in prison instead of being paid to ruin our country.

Global warming comes home

I'm 62 years old and I've lived in the Coeur d'Alene area for the past 28 years. Growing up, with my parents and brother and sister, I spent every summer until I graduated from high school visiting my grandparents here in Coeur d'Alene. They were the best times of my life.

Knitting for those who serve our country

SCHOOL LEVY: Vital to Quality of Life

When we consider quality of life in Coeur d’Alene we think about the natural environment, our strong sense of community, and the quality of our schools.

HYDROS: A pain in the ears

Fun for everyone! Not entirely. This was our experience — Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive is a small, narrow, limited access road that many of us must use to get to and from our homes. Getting through from either end meant delays of up to 45 minutes. This caused considerable stress for all of us but especially our neighbors who must get to work. Having the races in this area makes no sense.

LEVY: Small price to pay for kids

As an involved and concerned parent of children that will soon join the public school system here in Coeur d'Alene, I am painfully aware that state cuts to our schools have a direct and negative effect on our children and the quality of their education. That is why passing the Maintenance and Operations Levy this March is so important. It is even more important in light of the disproportionate impact those cuts will have on our already under-resourced district schools.
