KROC: Cool with the pool
I want to sincerely thank the Coeur d’Alene Kroc Center for hosting last weekend’s Turkey Trot Swim Meet. As one of the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team (CAST) coaches I cannot thank the supervisors and employees of the Kroc Center enough for their hard work in hosting 288 USA Swimming athletes over two and one half days with some of the finest and fastest swimming this community has ever seen.
TERRORISM: It starts with stupid
America today faces great danger. It is being led by total incompetents from Barack Obama on down to BO appointees. Marie Harf, second in command at USA Department of State, told the nation that America needs to offer “jobs” to the Islamic terrorists who are killing children, women and cutting heads off of anyone who stands in their way.
PRESS: You're OK
I am an old newspaper junkie, have been all my life. I have subscribed to everything from The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Tucson, Palm Springs, USA Today, Spokesman-Review, Wall Street Journal, and the Coeur d’Alene Press. Of them, you have the best local news, smidge of national news, good layout, great local stories and minimum political bias, and I note the good job you do of attracting advertisers. The Press is twice as big as the Review. All the others have submitted to fake news. You haven’t, but some pieces are borderline biased, only because you subscribe to the AP news.
No headline
I would like to know what our congressional legislators have to say about making America medically independent. More importantly, what legislation are they going to propose to return manufacturing of our critical infrastructure items to the USA? Medical supplies, equipment and medicines are produced in, you guessed it, China. Ninety-eight percent of America’s medicine is produced in China. Planet Earth is on lockdown and it all originated in China. To save face they blamed our country for their virus and demanded an apology or withhold pharmaceuticals and other critical supplies.
MEDIA: Just like Pravda
I wish to thank you for printing Article 1 of the Bill of Rights always at the top of the editorial page! It gives a great boost to freedoms which are given to us as citizens.
FENTANYL: Write to your members of Congress
Has anyone, especially our elected officials in the federal government, paid any serious attention at all to the magnitude of the number of American deaths recently attributed to fentanyl laced products being illegally brought into the USA through our southern border?
UKRAINE: Statesmanship lacking
What Ukraine needs from the USA to defeat the invasion of Putin’s military is a unified political response.
Edmunds: Five sedans worth considering amid the SUV mania
SUVs are among the most popular vehicles on the road today, and their sales growth has come at the expense of the traditional four-door sedan. Many shoppers are attracted to the greater utility and higher seating positions these vehicles typically provide. But there are still some great reasons to buy a sedan in 2020.

RANKED CHOICE VOTING: Too confusing
Simple and straightforward describes our current ballot system. As the voter, we check the box next to the name of the person we support, votes are counted and the person with the most votes wins. Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is anything but simple and straightforward. Due to the complexity, it is impossible to fully describe RCV in this limited space (I would encourage everyone to take the time to go online and try to understand the process). On the very confusing RCV ballot, you rank the candidates in the order of your preference. Then the real behind the scenes CALCULATIONS begin. Recounts cannot be done by hand, but must be run through the same computer calculation system. It’s been described as a runoff election. Ultimately, your vote may not even count. How does that sound?
