Fun with wine lists
As wine professionals, we get to try a lot of great new wine every week. But even with regular visits to the shop from distributors, importers and winemakers, there are still more wines we have yet to try. Jonathan Oberlander from J. Scott Winery had a great way of breaking down all the wine that is out there. He said, "There are three kinds of wine; those I like, those I don't like and those I have not tried yet." Well said Jonathan, we have adopted that mantra.
The world by the glass
We just returned from our semi-annual trip to the “gift show.” These trips are when Mary shops for all the merchandise we carry in the store, when we go in August our focus is on fall, the holidays and winter. For all of you who have been in the shop you know what beautiful work she does finding and displaying a lovely array of tabletop and gift items. We had another successful trip and all the new things will begin arriving in the coming weeks, be sure and come by to see the additions.
Why we try
Since we started out we have always viewed our wine offerings as opportunities. Whether it be the collection in general, our wine club, our weekly wine special called the “Friday Night Flights,” our monthly winemaker dinners and tastings or just selections we pick, we look at them as a chance to have customers try new things. We like to introduce all of you not necessarily to things only we find pleasing, but to find a bottle of wine that expands your wine journey while meeting your expectations for what you like to drink. When we get it right, which we like to think we do more often than not, it is very rewarding.

Voters spoke, but lawmakers must still work
In 1942, Idaho voters thought they were getting a pretty good deal. A proposal, in the form of a citizen initiative, was for every senior citizen to be granted a pension, funded at taxpayer expense. Idaho voters were clearly enamored with the idea. They voted 68 percent in favor of the concept.
