SCHOOLS: Add the words - now

In regard to the “hidden movement afoot” in our community, I’d like to clarify one point: It’s not hidden.

GRAMMY: Words ring true

I am writing in response to the guest column written by Leslie Wilde concerning the state of our nation. I couldn’t agree more. As a Grammy myself, I have been lamenting the actions, tweets, downright lies and bad behavior that define our current president.

Do your part for schools, Idaho

The angst many educators and parents have surrounding whether students should return to the classroom or learn online is not surprising, given the news we receive every day about the coronavirus’s spread in our state.

Defending liberty locally

Good morning. Before I moved here in 1993, a transplant from South Dakota, I spent 12 years in the U.S. Army. All soldiers take an oath to defend the nation, its Constitution, and its liberty, against all enemies "Foreign and Domestic." I am wondering who in local government is responsible for defending our liberty?

A war with no winners

Isn't it enough that we've politicized the present? Why must we also politicize the future?

Anybody stressed? Chiropractic can help

I love the holidays and all the fun and special times that come along with it, but unfortunately the nasty six letter word - stress - comes along with the bright lights and mistletoe. Stress not only affects our emotional well-being and our moods but our bodies as well. Research shows that stress and unhealthy behaviors contribute to some of our country's biggest health problems such as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Stress can also build up inside the body and manifest as back pain, neck pain or headaches. Did you know that stress can also cause damage to muscle tissue, can add to infertility and damage the immune response? We perceive stress from three basic sources: our environment, our body and our emotions. If you think about it, all three are especially challenged at this time of year.

Area schools need your help

I love my job! As an elementary school principal I am privileged to watch young minds fill with knowledge, skillful teachers engage struggling learners and a caring staff nurture little bodies. I, like every administrator in the Coeur d'Alene School District budget materials and staff, schedule teachers and educational aides and search for grants and additional funding to ensure our buildings are being run as fiscally responsible as possible.

Giving is receiving

It is said that, "what goes around comes around." Even so, there is no way we Realtors would accept any credit for the current trend in real estate. It has been a good year for our market and that means a good year for those who ply the trade. Understanding that good times allow people to do good things, the community outreach work the members of the Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors have done is deserving of some acknowledgment.

Happy Veterans Day! Yep, it’s here again. Our day to celebrate and be recognized for service to our country. In this neck of the woods, our deeds are recognized every day. How many times have you been thanked for your service this year?

Cardiovascular health

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and worldwide, accounting for almost 1 in 4 deaths in the U.S. every year. Our cardiovascular system is one of our most precious assets in maintaining our longevity and increasing our chances of enjoying many more decades of memories with family and friends. Yet it so often gets neglected because it can be so easy to ignore cardiovascular health for decades without noticing significant repercussions. I can all but guarantee you that nearly everyone diagnosed with serious cardiovascular disease of one form or another regrets not doing something about it sooner.

MY TURN: Our local jewel within our gem of a state

As I returned to Coeur d’Alene in August 2018 to retire, I realized that my life was taking a new turn. One year later a friend asked me, “How do you like retirement?” I pondered briefly, responding, “it is weird…good weird, yet a little weird.”

OPINION: RINOs and taxes

I read the April 23 news story written by Bill Buley about the town hall held recently by our North Idaho contingent of legislators. It makes a couple of points that are worth exploring.

LEADERS: Threat from Jezebels

Received a call recently about our upcoming elections. I am aware how important it is for me to vote this year 2012, as we have come to a point in our society where our men are no longer in headship in America. They have been deprived of their masculine vigor and spirit.

UNIFORMS: Board can multi-task

I respond to Noelle Branen’s letter castigating Coeur d’Alene School Board trustee Mr. Purtee for suggesting consideration of school uniforms. Ms. Branen thinks Mr. Purtee and the school board should focus solely on pushing the upcoming bond for needed facilities improvements for our schools.
