In a recent Coeur d'Alene Press editorial, the lingering ghost of the former editor rises like swamp gas over the Florida Everglades to regurgitate tired and biased tropes against the Republican Party.

THE FRONT ROW with MARK NELKE: Still a hit in Stillwater — Vanessa Shippy-Fletcher, the Lake City High product and former Oklahoma State star, now making an impact on the Cowgirls as batting coach

“I pinch myself every day," Shippy-Fletcher said earlier this season, in an interview published in “The O’Colly,” Oklahoma State’s student newspaper. "The reason I chose Oklahoma State in high school was because I wanted to choose a program that I felt like I could make a difference in. And when I made that decision, I just figured it’d be as a player. It’s really a dream come true to continue to be a part of the process this program continues to make. Especially under Coach G's leadership.”

'We have to ask the question about suicide'

About five students in a class of 30 will think about attempting suicide. That’s a reality Keith Orchard of the Coeur d'Alene school district wants more people to consider. “We’d like to make the conversation about suicide more open and honest. One out of 30 students will be injured seriously enough to require medical care for their attempt,” Orchard said.

OPINION: People deserve fairness, regardless of gender identity

Talking about gender identity can be downright difficult — especially for many across North Idaho. LGBTQ+ rights are a flashpoint that often ignites strong feelings one way or another.

ADVERTISING: Advertorial — Reframing Depression: Taking back control

Struggling with persistent unwelcome emotions is not new. But the escalation of mental health diagnoses is alarming. Doctors are quick to medicate someone who comes in with complaints of over a hundred different emotional disorders, depression amongst the most frequent. While medications certainly have their place, and I am not a psychiatrist, I’d like to entertain another way of looking at, particularly depression, in a different light, in an effort to put power back into the hands of the individual.
