VOTING: Citizens, step up

Sholeh’s column on July 26 cited the 2014 survey from Princeton University that the USA is no longer a Democracy. Regardless of the survey, the USA is representative and self-ruling. This is versus totalitarian, autocratic, despotic, tyrannical, fascistic, Nazi, theocratic and generally undemocratic types of government. Traveling to another country exemplifies and contrasts the value of the American way of life, its government and of USA citizenship!

TRUMP: Beware his health care

I saw an interesting actuarial table and chart from the World Health Organization that shows USA longevity in 1960 as 70 years of age. Longevity started moving up in the USA in the late 1960s to 79.3 in 2015. That is when Medicare and Medicaid started to impact our health care system. Even so, in Canada life expectancy in 2015 was 82.2, and in Japan it was 83.7 years of age. When the nations were listed by life expectancy, the USA was ranked 31. We should rank much higher.

DEAR DR. GOTT: Seven or eight years ago, you suggested using Vicks VapoRub for relief of the discomfort associated with anal hemorrhoids. It has worked really well for me. I have used both the Vicks and store-brand equivalents. I have no more pain from my two hemorrhoids but now wonder if I should keep using the product or have the hemorrhoids removed.
