The Idaho Freedom Foundation may be coming to your school district to carry out its publicly-proclaimed goal of getting the government out of the business of educating our kids. HUCKLEBERRIES: Origin of huckleberry ice cream
North Idahoans love all things huckleberry. Huckleberry pancakes. Huckleberry muffins. Huckleberry syrup and jams. Huckleberry shakes from Paul Bunyan. And the huckleberry ice cream cones at the North Idaho Fair. So we should cherish the memory of Myron Haugen, the local who made our first commercial huckleberry ice cream.

OPINION: Main Street Idaho, a breath of fresh air
Last night I sat down to dinner with state Sen. Treg Bernt from District 21. Treg is a fourth-generation Idahoan and a graduate of Idaho State University. I imagine they would refer to him as a “RINO” as they do so many of our staunchly conservative neighbors.

Community to library network: Take the tax increase
Many call for keeping programs intact
Accepting a tax increase and future impacts of not doing so were major concerns voiced by community members Thursday evening during the Community Library Network’s budget hearing at the Post Falls Library. Nearly all of the 16 people who spoke during the hearing expressed they are in favor of the board taking a 3% tax increase as allowed by law, which would provide the network with nearly $150,000. Many also shared their desire to keep the Post Falls and Hayden libraries open Sundays.
