OPINION: Get Dorothy Moon

Since the moment of Dorothy Moon’s landslide victory at the 2022 Idaho State Convention, former chairman Tom Luna, his unhinged sidekick Trent Clark and fellow travelers have been waging a disinformation campaign to discredit and depose Madam Chairman Dorothy Moon. They formed the ironically titled “Gem State Conservatives” PAC and are using funds from undisclosed donors in a state wide effort to displace grassroots conservative Precinct Committeemen. Their tactics are worthy of the Biden Administration and are applauded by Democrats.

OPINION: Transparency in numbers: A look into how your tax dollars are being spent

The first rule for any responsible government is that it must do the work of the people, for the people. That is the reason for any government’s existence. But before that work can start, the governing body must first prioritize getting, and more importantly, keeping the trust of its citizens. I am proud to say the state of Idaho is leading the way in the creation of concrete processes to do just that, to better ensure our citizens can trust their state and local government entities.

With Gem State unemployment well under 3%, and in some counties under 2%, finding and keeping employees is a real challenge. In a recent address to the business community, Gov. Little spoke of the urgent need for workforce housing, but for many small businesses struggling with labor shortages that’s a long-term solution for which they can’t wait.

OPINION: Moon’s GOP dances to the tune of the Idaho Freedom Foundation

Dorothy Moon’s branch of the Republican Party is so entwined with the inaptly named Idaho Freedom Foundation (IFF) that it is hard to know who is calling the shots. Both are extremely far to the right. Both have sought to divide Idahoans by stoking fear and outrage over fake culture war issues. Neither has shown much interest in working on actual problems facing the state, such as water policy, adequate funding for pre-K through higher education, property taxes, infrastructure and important social programs. The IFF has established a strong grip over many GOP legislators since it came on the scene in 2009. The closing of the GOP primary in 2012 supercharged its efforts to populate the Legislature with extremists and control their votes.

OPINION: Launch grants: Game changer or money pit?

As a native Idahoan, I can speak with some authority about the Gem State being a great place to live, raise a family and play.
