Re-entry center: Look hard at merits
Weighing in on the debate about whether or not Kootenai County should accept an Idaho Department of Correction re-entry center, I am on the “pro” side. As a teacher and administrator at Anchor House/Idaho Youth Ranch for 20 years working with troubled, traumatized youth, I am well aware of our community’s need for resources for persons young and old in the correctional system. We need to end our tendency to respond, “Not In My Backyard,” and consider the merits of the proposal.
ADVERTISING: Advertorial — Spring critters
As is the case for Spring, year after year, while we look forward to our colorful array of flowers to appear, instead, breaking the soil is allergies, colds and the flu.

This letter is in response to Missy Brum's opinion letter posted on Sunday, July 18, "Education: Otter wrong to cut budget."

Op-Ed: Uniformity transparency committee update
In our local elections our voters decide who serves as our local leaders…mayors, city council members, school board members, fire district commissioners, etc.

The holiday season is here, with our thoughts turning to celebrations with family and friends.

Ski resort says no twilight due to nonmaskers
ART: Beholders have their say
What a great letter from D. Mitchell of Coeur d’Alene. I totally agree with him. We seem to have missed the uniqueness of our town with the choice of the Allium Plant to represent our beautiful Northern Idaho Paradise. At least a consideration of the Hearts Sculpture would’ve represented our “Coeur d’Alene” being derived from “heart of the awl.” I would prefer ponderosa pines or wildlife, deer, moose or creatures we see every day here.
KTEC: Proposal earns endorsements
The City of Post Falls and the City of Rathdrum are pleased to endorse the Kootenai Technical Education Campus which will be of much benefit to our cities nd neighboring communities. Expanded programs to educate our youth and train them in skilled occupations will bring benefit not only to the students of Post Falls, Lakeland and Coeur d’Alene school districts, but to the entire business community in our area.
KNIVES: Thanks from the military
Please accept my sincere appreciation for recognizing our Airmen with the sponsorship of the priceless Buck Knife. Your contribution is of great significance to our Airmen ... knowing the community cares and recognizing the specialness of the gift. Our Airmen deploy to keep us free, and your special gift goes above and beyond to salute them for their sacrifice and their family’s sacrifice. We are so fortunate at Fairchild for your commitment to Airmen — you are emblematic of the red, white and blue community we reside in.
TRIBE: Awareness week tribute
The Coeur d’Alene Tribe is truly a partner with education. Each year they host Water Awareness Week for students in our area. They have specialists on hand to present timely and interesting lessons supporting water quality. In addition, students are exposed to historical elements of our area and native customs which demonstrate a love for the land. This high-quality experience takes place along the banks of Lake Creek and provides authentic learning which is so valuable to our students.
AMADOR: The best choice
I am writing to encourage voters to re-elect Paul Amador as our Republican Representative for Idaho House Seat 4B.
SOUZA: For state Senate
I write to support the re-election of Senator Mary Souza. We need her to continue representing us and fighting for our community’s education choices, as well as for our teachers.
GIFT: Makes wedding even better
This is a delayed note of gratitude toward an anonymous person, who happened to be at the Texas Roadhouse restaurant on the night of Feb. 21. On that snowy evening, my fiance and I had said our vows, starting our life together. It was a just a small civil ceremony, which was followed by dinner at Texas Roadhouse.
TRAGEDY: Be careful to judge
It's so nice for us to sit in our cozy homes with our feet up, a cup of coffee or tea and pour over the events in our local paper. Take a deep breath and be thankful our family is healthy and intact. To read of a mishap that involves the death of a child and the fault (mistake) is left on the heart of the parent should draw compassion from the heart not self-righteous judgment.
CONCERTS: Singing some praises
On behalf of the 3Cs Coeur d’Aleers I would like to offer a big thank you to the members of our community who came to our free Christmas concerts at Trinity Lutheran Church on Fifth Street on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 3 and Friday evening, Dec. 6. This is our annual gift to the community.
