A small-business owner was in trouble with her sales, so she decided to call in an expert to give her an outsider's viewpoint. After she had gone over her plans and problems, the business owner took the sales expert to a map on the wall and showed him brightly colored pins stuck wherever she had a salesperson.

The bigger picture

When we report statistical data as compiled by the Coeur d'Alene Multiple Listing Service, we generally are reporting on single family homes on lots under two acres in size. This is consistent with the national news about real estate most often reported and we want you to be able to see how we stand by comparison. There is far more to our real estate market which exceeded $735 million in sales as of the end of Sep-tember.

WHY am I sick?

If a tree in your yard or a flower in your garden suddenly died or was sick, would you just chop it down or pluck it out and throw it away, or would you take it somewhere (such as the University of Idaho Extension Office Master Gardener Clinic) to find out WHY it is sick or dying and try to rescue it? If your car stopped running or was making some horrible sound, would you just take it to a junkyard and dispose of it, or would you take it to a mechanic for a diagnostic workup? Would you be happy if they just duct-taped it together and said you’re good to go? If not, why do that to your body? The number one question you should always be asking is “WHY?”

The big day

By the time you are opening up to this article in the Press it will be just about two weeks to go until Thanksgiving day, one of the biggest days of the year for family gatherings and the ultimate in dinner parties. While all over America the basic menu has a centerpiece of roasted turkey and some variance in the all important and plentiful side dishes, desserts and before meal snacks, for many of us picking the right wine to accompany the feast is still a challenge. Here are some basics on the classic pairings for this great holiday meal as well as some suggestions.

Support the best wine lists

We write frequently about the number of wines we taste; it is about 50 to 60 per week. We almost never turn down a chance to taste with any of our distributors, importers, winemakers or brokers. We consider it the most important part of our job and view it as the only way to bring the best selection of wines to you, our customers. Ultimately that is the key, finding wines that you all want to drink while providing variety in your choices.
