Commission adopts big game seasons
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission adopted big game seasons for 2010 with few changes. New this year were caps on some elk tags, allowing youth hunters to hunt in both A and B tag elk hunts and easing black bear and mountain lion hunts in some units to include electronic calls and increased bag limits.

BONNERS FERRY - The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has awarded a grant of $99,268 to fund the McArthur Lake Wildlife Safety Project, an effort to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions on U.S. 95 near Bonners Ferry.
Wolf trapping season under way in Panhandle zone
COEUR d'ALENE - Hunters have taken 16 wolves through Thursday in Idaho's Panhandle wolf zone since the hunting season opened Aug. 30, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
Ralph L. Maciosek, 89
Ralph L. Maciosek Sr. Born on August 17, 1924 in Ashland, Wisconsin passed on October 16, 2013 at age 89. Ralph’s early years were spent in Cable, Wisconsin. He came west at 18 and worked on some of the big farms on the Palouse in Idaho before being called to serve during World War II. He was a Marine who served on the Navy ship USS Yorktown and USS Pennington. After discharge he went home to Cable WI, then returned to Idaho where he married Joy Carol Large and raised his family. He worked as a logger and in the local mines. Eventually settling in the Wolf Lodge, Blue Creek area in Coeur d’alene. He went to work for Idaho Forest industries at the D’ Armond sawmill for many years. At retirement he was the mill supervisor. He was passionate about horse logging, he was always in search of another big cob. Hobbies included panning for gold, fishing for silvers, and gathering firewood for family. He especially loved golfing with his brother in law Ray.
Report: Wolf numbers down
The 2011 annual summary of wolf monitoring in Idaho shows wolf numbers are down for the second consecutive year, reports Idaho Fish and Game.

Health advisories issued for Fernan and Hayden lakes
Panhandle Health District and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality have issued health advisories for the east side of Fernan Lake and the northern arm of Hayden Lake, near the Sportsman Access. PHD is urging the public to use caution when recreating in or near the water.

William A. 'Bill' Reid, 86
Bill was born June 18, 1929, in Syracuse, N.Y., and passed away peacefully in Sandpoint, Idaho, on March 23, 2016. Adopted at age 2 from an orphanage by James and Francis Reid and raised an only child, Bill had a wonderful childhood growing up in upstate New York enjoying the great outdoors, learning to stream fish, deer hunt and building great friendships. Bill began piano lessons at age 5 and immediately took interest in Jazz and was playing professionally by the age of 19.

Susan L. Drake, 58
After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Susan Drake passed away on March 14, 2015. She fought bravely with much discomfort and pain, but kept it to herself - she was a real trooper and inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She hung on with stubborn determination to enjoy her garden and berries this past summer, as well as Kokanee fishing, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the birth of her first grandchild on Jan. 10 of this year.

Lyle Duane Linnell, 89, passed away Dec. 21, 2016, at his residence in Coeur d’Alene. He was born in Kit Carson County, Colo., to Margaret Hanley Linnell and Seth Linnell on March 10, 1927.

Residents have recently documented sightings of woodland caribou near the U.S.-Canada border. The multiple sightings include the potential for a bull and a cow in separate locations, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Dillon Tabish said Monday.
