Employer sees benefits of YourHealthIdaho.org
Along with three other family business partners, I manage a large, diversified dry land crop, cattle and timber operation in North Idaho and also provide consulting services to family farm businesses. I've got a lot on my mind, but one of my top issues is health care and health insurance.
Personal Safety Zone Feb. 28, 2010
Keeping your home safe
Welcome back to the Personal Safety Zone. This month I want to discuss personal safety in and around your home. There are many things we can do to improve our personal safety and the security of our belongings. Let's start with the residence and our belongings and we will end our discussion with some behavioral considerations that will ultimately keep us and our neighborhood safe.

North Idaho College's commencement on May 13 was once again a great event. Out of approximately 900 students eligible for graduation this year, nearly 400 chose to celebrate their success by walking across the stage and receiving their degree or certificate. This is a public statement about NIC's commitment to student success.

TIMBERLAKE: Council fires back
We the city of Athol council members and mayor write this letter in regards to addressing the slanderous and false accusations brought forward by Sue Damon and former Timberlake Fire Chief Jack Krill against our city employee, Bob Wachter (hereinafter referred to as "Bob") regarding the city of Athol's water system.
We support the Cd'A school levy
On March 12, voters in Coeur d'Alene School District 271 will be asked to approve a Maintenance and Operations property tax levy to fund 20 percent of the school district budget. We firmly support passage of the levy and encourage community participation in voting YES. That said, the amount of the levy is still too low since it does not fully fund even the current needs of the District.
5 tips for a strong immune system
Doctor of Oriental Medicine
It's that time of year when the flu, colds and other viral maladies "strike" at the populace. What time of the year doesn't it? I don't know about you, but I have noticed that the flu seems to be year round now. Colds always have been. So what can we do to resist these "bugs" that are supposedly attacking us? The answer is: the best immunization you can have is a strong immune system.
Reflection
As we look back on 2013 we must begin with the third quarter of 2012 as our starting point. November of 2012, interest on real estate loans hit an all time low and aided our recovery as market-wise buyers realized that rates were not likely to go lower. These interest rates would hold, hovering below 3.5 percent into early 2013.
Cheer up, things could be worse
So the old saying goes. "And then I cheered up and sure enough, things got worse," said the curmudgeon. But things don't appear to be getting worse in our real estate market.

Osteoporosis: The quality of the stick
The quality of our bones has been a subject of concern for several decades now. Our focus seems to always be on bone density. What seems to be ignored is bone quality. I like to compare it to a stick: a green stick is flexible and gives when it is bent and bounces back more easily. This is healthy bone; quality bone. A brown, dried up stick when bent will snap. It takes much less force to break it than does a green one. This is unhealthy bone – osteoporosis, or bone which has been forced to be unnaturally more dense (via drugs).
My view from the street
The 2016 election has divided families, friends, and country into hostile camps of warring zealous devotees and opposition unbelievers. We shout and brandish fists across a deepening, widening chasm. We’ve lost all capacity for civil, reasoned discussion or compromise. We insult “enemies” who are our family members, our friends and neighbors, our community. We become “unpatriotic," and “un-American," because of political disagreements.
Memo to Mr. Trump from Idaho neighbor
IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR FEARS OF A RIGGED ELECTION DIDN’T PAN OUT. You won.
OPINION: 'Greatness comes from everywhere'
When it comes to immigration and refugees, presidents and Congress get to say, but mayors have to do.
Survey will help employers strike health gold
In this time of ever-rising health care costs, several of us, as representatives of like-minded employers, have decided to get off the sidelines and “get into the game” of pursuing creative solutions for this ongoing problem. The Employer Wellness Advisory Committee of the Coeur d’Alene area has come together to drive toward the goal of improving the health and well-being of the place we call home.

Teeth in your stomach?
I regularly have people coming to me with digestive disorders. Heartburn, reflux, IBS, ulcers, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, colitis, constipation, persistent diarrhea, etc. I love treating digestive disorders because when we straighten it out, it’s amazing how many other health maladies straighten out as a result. One question I frequently ask is “Do you have teeth in your stomach?” That generally results in a widened expression or a chuckle. But so many people act like they do!
Discrimination hurts Idaho's economy
Last Tuesday, Gov. Otter told the Idaho Press Club that he didn't think Idaho's anti- gay reputation hurts business in Idaho! It isn't true. Discrimination does hurt Idaho's economy. It doesn't just hurt the people being discriminated against, Gov. Otter. Discrimination, and the negative reputation it gives to Idaho hurts the ability of our businesses to compete in a challenging economy. Discrimination hurts every hard working Idahoan who is trying to make ends meet.
Your hands are a window to your heart
With autumn just around the corner, our store customers who knit have been keeping busy through the summer months on projects for the holidays and charity projects we help support throughout the year. We're always setting goals and sharing stories around the knitting table. Some are huge goals like our knitter Mary Ford, who completed the Coeur d'Alene Ironman along with her husband Jim. Others are focused on learning to knit socks or picking up the challenge of a hand-knit sweater. Setting goals and sharing time with others is key to a healthy lifestyle.
