Tasting with an old Friend

Around since 1995 Walla Walla Vintners continues to be one of the most popular wineries, producing some of the most popular red wines from the Northwest. Under the steady guidance of co-owners and co-winemakers Gordy Venneri and Miles Anderson, the winery continues to produce small lots of limited varietal selection that are frequently requested and most times sell themselves.

OPINION: The Dangerous World of Vaping

Until recently, tobacco use was on the decline among Idaho’s youth. Vaping––smoking e-cigarettes––reversed this trend, and tobacco use is surging among those most likely to develop a lifelong addiction. As mother of adolescents, here’s what I’ve learned about why:

Swollen knees, swollen bills

It took a long time for this mother of two to get an official diagnosis for her toddler. In the meantime, all she could do was worry a lot and watch her child suffer.

2014 exceeds expectations

The Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors was excited to tell you last October that we had surpassed our 2006 sales volume for residential real estate. Because our production is not tallied until the last sale of the month has completed, even we were not aware of how well the market would finish at the end of December.

Market appreciation still climbing

2013 ended with an increase in sales of 21 percent over the previous year. That pace has cooled somewhat this year with sales at the end of May just 3 percent ahead of May 2013 when we look at the entire Coeur d'Alene Multiple Listing Service area. Some areas fared better than others, as is always the case, but the real surprise - and strongest performance - has been in the northern parts of Kootenai County.

Things are looking up

As expected, sales reported to the Coeur d'Alene Multiple Listing Service show a rising trend in housing demand. Foreclosures and short sales however, have caused an overall decline in pricing. Although our number of sales is up 44.2 percent April figures show our average price lower by 5.5 percent than the same time period last year.

TRAPS: Their time has gone

Here we go again! Another family ruined by the senseless loss of their pet by some lazy coward. They remind me of the Vietcong or a terrorist setting booby traps to seriously injure or kill anything from family pets, hunting dogs or protected animals — or maybe a child.

TRUMP: Tax code concern

Congress is set to take on tax reform next and President Trump recently released his tax plan. There are many things I like about the president’s tax plan such as reducing the number of brackets from 7 to 4, eliminating the income tax for households earning less than $50,000 per year, and lowering taxes for everyone.

INMATE: Jesus has no price tag

I am writing to try and understand why Donald Smith has to pay $2,500 to find Jesus. Has Jesus become just another thing to sell like you would a house or a car? We went to the Tim Remington church for about 6 months and never saw anyone get saved. If Tim Remington gets people saved, I would like to know how he does it before I would invest a penny, but I am sure someone out there will fall for this con job. Do they get their $2,500 back if Donald goes back to his alcohol, or does Tim keep the money no matter how it turns out for Donald? How did people find Jesus before people started selling him?

French parenting secrets

Much as I'd enjoy it, this column is not for book reviews. So while I'll refrain from comment or even from reading this (not yet published) book, its autobiographical synopsis held me at rapt attention. I had to share. "Bringing up Bebe: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting" was published this week by Penguin Press. If you'd rather skip the full read, at least peruse author Pamela Druckerman's column in the Wall Street Journal online. My children are grown, but it's fascinating nonetheless.

BOMBER: An unexpected gift

Having read that the classic World War II bomber B-25J “Maid in the Shade” was at the Coeur d’Alene airport last weekend I drove over to have a look at it. What a magnificent, historical sight! When I realized they were giving rides I inquired about the price. Being out of my price range, I declined but continued to admire this piece of history when a gentleman came over and informed me someone had bought a ticket for me!

GOP: Common sense will prevail

The best Government money can buy! Does that ring a bell? Oh goodness sake, President Trump is not a politician; Drain the swamp, make American great again? Oh no, what about all the big money that the pimps have spent, Oh I’m sorry they are called Lobbyiests. Their job is to bribe our politicians, men and women and their staffs, to do their bidding. The Democratic party used to be the party for the working man. Now they are so far left we’re not sure whom they represent! Open borders, undo everything Trump has done and make America great again! Clintons, lies, lies, and more lies, selling materials to our enemies to make bobms to destroy us, lies about Bengazi etc etc. Soro and Obama Traitor you tell me. The list is a mile long! Open borders, illegal immigrants pushed ahead of the ones coming legally. Hidden all over the U.S., sanctuary cities. Giving Iran the OK to buy or build warheads to take out the US or Isreal giving millions of dollars. Releasing war criminals to kill more of our troops again etc etc.

Communications and banking technologies move money around the world at lighting speed these days. Crooks that would separate you from your money are no longer just local and regional.
