Foggy Days: Reasons for brain fog and poor memory
In our quest for greater brain clarity, we need to understand that it is never normal to have brain fog, poor concentration, or lack of cognitive clarity, even as we age. While blamed on “you’re just getting old,” we know that isn’t true, as 20 and 30-year-olds can have the same complaints. While poor memory could be age-related, people under the age of 90 should be seeking other reasons for these issues.

Taste, taste, taste
Mary and I affectionately refer to tasting wine many times as "homework." For us while it really isn't work at all it is a big part of the job, as we never feel comfortable or confident recommending a wine to a customer if we have not tried it first regardless of the price we pay and therefore charge our customers, it has to meet our standards. Allegorically, customers can and for their own protection should approach wine the same way.

PHARMACIES: PBMs are killing independent owners
As a local pharmacist, it was refreshing for me to see an article in The Press about the challenges facing pharmacies today. Low insurance reimbursement does not affect only rural pharmacies, however, but is leading to the demise of all independently owned pharmacies. Contrary to what Greg Lopes would want you to believe, PBMs are definitely and primarily responsible for the closure of many pharmacies. Not only, as the article pointed out, are 25% of claims paid below cost, but many more pay mere pennies above the cost of the drug. After adding the direct cost of the vial, lid and label, easily 50% of claims are paid at or below cost.

Join the drug war
The pretty 19-year-old girl and her mother came to Dr. Joseph Abate at Dirne Clinic for help. The girl admitted that she was taking 16 oxycontin tablets a day - a stunning sum - and couldn't stop. Dr. Abate quickly did the math in his head and determined that the girl was spending about $500 a day for the prescription pills. And he asked her if he could inquire how she raised that kind of money.
