Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female hormonal disorders, globally affecting five to 10 percent of reproductive-age women. With PCOS, the ovaries produce an abnormal amount of androgens or male sex hormones that are usually only present in women in small amounts. The term “polycystic ovary” describes the numerous small cysts that may form in the ovaries, visible through ultrasound. The most common symptoms include acne, facial or body hair, weight gain, hair thinning and irregular or absent menstrual cycles.

ADVERTISING: Advertorial — Neuropathy helped naturally

The screaming pain of neuropathy can be life altering, and the milder annoying tingling, burning, and numbness of it can alter quality of life as well. We trust our limbs to be healthy and cooperate with our daily activities. Some people describe it as feeling like they have a piece of leather between their foot and the floor while barefoot. The loss of sensation can cause loss of balance, weakness, lack of coordination and muscle wasting, making it challenging to walk, stand or use the hands for fine motor skills, frequently dropping things.

ADVERTISING: Advertorial — The role of acupuncture in brain injury recovery

The brain is a remarkable organ. 50 years ago we hardly had a clue how well the brain was capable of recovering after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Because the brain heals slower than any other organ that we have, it was originally assumed that once damaged, you were stuck with it. We now know better. ADVERTISING: Advertorial — The link between gut health and food sensitivities

It is estimated that more than 33 million Americans have food allergies and/or sensitivities, including almost six million children under age 18 — but that is likely a gross undercalculation. The most common food allergies include milk and dairy, eggs, fish and shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybeans, but people can be sensitive to just about anything. Since food allergies and sensitivities were almost unheard of 50 years ago, what is causing this modern epidemic?

Are there any holes in your estate plan?

Wills and trusts are typically changed over time as life circumstances, the state where you reside, or your desired outcomes change. It is actually the rare case where a person puts their estate plan together once and never changes it after that. What is important to understand however, is how to effectively and legally change your will or trust so that the changes are enforced per your wishes.

A will by any other name … no, sorry they are actually not the same

Because attorneys seem to have a hard time making anything easy, several estate planning documents have similar and easy to confuse names, which adds confusion to an already complicated topic. Estate planning legal matters are already confusing enough, so it certainly does not help to have similar names for related but completely different documents. Today, let’s try to clear things up a bit with a review of the differences between a “Living Will” and a “Living Trust.”
