“This has always been a goal of mine and it feels so amazing to accomplish as a freshman — also having the team win state is just as amazing,” Rickert said. “I have been working toward this my whole life and have been working really hard with the team this season and with my hitting coach in Spokane to prepare for this.”

NIC (40-2) is the top overall seed and will face 16th seeded Grays Harbor (14-30) today at 1 p.m. in the opening round. The Cardinals are seeking their first title since winning back-to-back crowns in 2018 and 2019 in Spokane.

STATE HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Despite playing up, Timberlake still draws a No. 8 seed
“If you look at our strength of schedule, it’s the second lowest of all the 3A schools,” ninth-year Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We want to play up because we want to do better at state, but when MaxPreps changed the ranking system they said if you schedule up it will help your strength … and you would think that would help your final rankings, but that did not definitely help us.”
