Cd'A School District cancels special board meeting
The special meeting of the Coeur d’Alene School District's board of trustees set for 5:15 tonight to discuss the residency of Zone 1 Trustee Allie Anderton has been canceled.
NIC BOARD: Goals are to clean up messes they have made
During the public comments section of the Jan. 24 meeting of NIC’s Board of Trustees, a community member asked for certain trustees to stop making inappropriate, derogatory and intimidating remarks to those giving comments to other trustees and to any spectators. That request was immediately followed by an inappropriate, derogatory and intimidating response by one of the trustees. Was that request beyond understanding, or did the trustee simply need to feel more powerful by demoralizing someone?
GRISSOM, THOMPSON: Good for Lakeland students and parents
Election day has come and gone and that warrants some reflection. As a mom of three in the Lakeland School District, the election of our school board trustees had my attention. What direction would voters want our community headed in? In 2019, Ramona Grissom and Michelle Thompson were elected. During their four years on the school board, these two trustees helped to re-open the schools in the fall of 2020 without face masks, worked to keep our schools focused on education and advocated for parental rights.

OPINION: NIC debacle demonstrates the dangers of extremism
The political extremists who took control of North Idaho College in the 2020 trustee election wasted little time trying to destroy what had been the jewel in Idaho’s community college crown since its founding in 1933. The hostile take-over of NIC’s board of trustees was engineered by Brent Regan and his collection of far-right extremists. They falsely claimed in the election that NIC was run by a bunch of radical liberals who were essentially brainwashing the students. Nothing could have been further from the truth but Regan’s candidates carried the day.
NIC: Trustees’ ‘stupidity or insanity’
The NIC trustees voted 3-2 to contract with Stanley Freeman of the firm Eversheds Sutherland, based in Washington, D.C., “to provide legal services to the college in regard to accreditation matters.” The firm is an excellent law firm.

NIC trustees debate board policies
Ahead of a required update to North Idaho College’s accreditor, four trustees met Wednesday for a special meeting where they debated proposed changes to board policies.
LIBRARY NETWORK ELECTION: Vote for Meyer and McCrea
Trustees serve as advocates of intellectual freedom. Tim Plass announced his candidacy for the North Idaho College Zone 5 trustee seat in August 2022. In his release statement, Plass noted a need to, “…realign NIC’s direction to reflect the values of the community.” Plass later withdrew his name from consideration with Mike Waggoner receiving the official endorsement. However, he shared this same message as reasoning for pursuing the CLN trustee role. Ron Hartman, while running for the Zone 1 trustee role with NIC provided more clarity during a podcast by stating the college should reflect the Christian values of the community.
COMMUNITY LIBRARY NETWORK TRUSTEES: Don’t believe in community
If we thought the libraries were safe to stay open after the CLN Trustees’ ineptitude was revealed, we were wrong. The Trustees are now here to take away another part of the library network: community.

CLN: No Sunday closures
Work continues on insurance, materials collection policy, disaffiliation from American Library Association
It's official: No libraries in the Community Library Network will close Sundays. "If the CLN board of trustees did in fact have a valid approval vote of closing on Sundays, it is now rescinded," Chair Rachelle Ottosen said Thursday morning in a motion during a regular meeting of the board at the Pinehurst Library. The motion was unanimously approved by trustees.
POWER OF THE PULPIT: Don’t blame churches
It is unfortunate that we have to blame someone else when we don’t get what we want, but that’s what appears to be happening here. The recent library trustees election revealed the will of the people — the new trustees were voted in, prior trustees were voted out. That is why we have elections. We have the freedom to vote our conscience. But that doesn’t give anyone an excuse to condemn, blame or blast those who think differently. We all have reasons for how we vote, and we should all live with the outcomes.

RESIDENCY QUESTIONS: Attempt to stifle trustee’s voice
I am dismayed that speculation regarding a possible/temporary relocation of a school board trustee ended up on the front page of our local paper and even more dismayed that the CDA School Board of Trustees is holding a special board meeting to discuss this.
EDITORIAL: Once again, trustees fall through floor
Hold off on hiring qualified legal counsel
BANDUCCI: Should ‘practice what he preaches’
Violence in the workplace is an unacceptable thing in a civilized society. That point was made abundantly clear when NIC Trustee Todd Banducci was assaulted in his office earlier this month. The quick condemnation of the attacker by our community shows we will not tolerate such activities. Trustee Banducci expressed the ongoing impact on his coworkers and family at the NIC BOT meetings on May 17 and 24.

PLASS: ‘Try harder’
This letter is in response to CLN Trustee Tim Plass requesting Director Eccles to “try harder” in opening the Post Falls library while water mitigation is happening.
HOSPITAL TRUSTEE CANDIDATES: More info needed
In preparing to vote on May 16, I am trying to find out as much as I can about the candidates to make an informed decision on the upcoming election. There is not much out there. I do not know any of the candidates personally. I feel fairly well informed about the school levies and the library trustees due to reading the paper, but what about the hospital trustees, and is it even relevant now that a nonprofit model is being adopted.
