The North Idaho Splash eighth-grade AAU boys basketball team took third place in the club division at the recent Washington state middle school tournament in Spokane. The Splash qualified for this tournament two years ago but the tournament was cancelled because of COVID-19. The tournament was cancelled again in 2021. The Splash played three games on Saturday, beating The Blue Squad of Richland, Wash., 49-35, Kent Elite from Maple Valley, Wash., 66-44 and Hoop City from Spokane 56-29. On Sunday, the Splash lost 43-19 in the semifinals to the Montana Ballers of Helena, but came back to beat the Rebels of Liberty Lake 54-46 for third place. This was the Splash's final tournament of the season and they finished the year with a record of 38-13. The Splash opted to skip league play this season and participate solely in tournaments around the region, participating in tournaments in the Tri-Cities, Lewiston, Hermiston, Yakima, Rathdrum, Spokane, Post Falls and Walla Walla.
