Recent donors to the Thanksgiving food distribution helped raise total donated funds to $20,000. From left: Mayte Eriksson, secretary of Turkeys & More and ($1,000 donor); Barbara Patton, Northwest Specialty Hospital ($1,000 donor); Garrison Gammell with Horizon Credit Union ($500 donor); Lisa Brown with Platinum Home Mortgage ($500 donor), Nancy Nelson Walz, Turkeys & More committee; and Bill Griffiths, president of Turkeys & More and ($500) donor. Evalyn Adams, coordinator of this annual event to assist 1,800 vulnerable families in Kootenai County, said the committee was very thankful to all who have helped achieve about 1/3 of the funds needed. With the increased price of turkeys, it is estimated it will cost nearly $60,000 to buy the turkeys and furnish gift cards for the other holiday food. People who will be served, will be able to register through local food banks in the fall. Those who want to help may send checks made out to Turkeys & More, P.O. Box 267, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83816. Adams estimates nearly 7,000 people will enjoy a nourishing holiday dinner in their homes and will be thankful they live in a caring community. She said this boost will help them to have more hope for a better future. If you want to help volunteer or have questions, you are welcome to call Adams at 208-765-5535 or email evalynera@hotmail.com.
