Val Mares, an eighth grader at Lakes Middle School, holds up her work, "Loving Differences," an artistic response to the reading of a play adaption of "The Diary of Anne Frank." Mares said she drew physical insecurities because a theme of the story was others being treated unfairly for their differences — the very things that make people unique. Courtesy photo.
