The Lake City Thunder 16U team of Coeur d’Alene went 5-0 last weekend to win the Best of the West softball tournament  in Pasco, Wash., beating the Washington Angels 6-3 in the championship game. The Thunder opened on Saturday with a 12-0 victory over the Wildcats TC, as Kristine Schmidt and Matea Dorame combined on a no-hitter. Kailey Cramer hit a two-run homer, and Addie Brannen went 3 for 3 and stole three bases. The Thunder then edged the Liberty Lake Lightning 8-5. Layla Gugino, Megan Highfill and Brooklyn Wullenwaber each homered for the winners. The Thunder then beat the NCW Sun Devils 11-1, as Cramer drove in four runs and Highfill went 3 for 3. The Thunder then beat the Oregon Titans 15-5 on Sunday, as Catherine Bakken went 4 for 4 with a homer and two doubles. Dorame also homered. In the finals, the Thunder defeated the other undefeated team, the Washington Angels, with Schmidt getting the win in the circle. Bakken homered for the Thunder, Katie Berg singled in two runs, and Bakken and Brannen each finished with two hits.
