The North Idaho Softball Club recently won a Senior Softball USA World Championship in the men's 65 AAA division in St. George, Utah. In the 17-team division, the North Idaho team posted a 7-0 record for the three-day tourney, winning the championship game 17-10 over Team Texas of San Antonio. The North Idaho team consisted of local players Jim Palombi, Lee Libera, Dick Stauffer, John Walkington and Tim Coles. The team also included Larry Lewis, Dennis Wolff, Ray Hofstad, Terry Graham and Brad Hampton from Montana, and Wayne Becker, Ron Geffre and Rich Long from North Dakota. "The high level of play was a total team effort, everyone played exceptional, but special recognition to Lee Libera and John Walkington for an outstanding tourney," Palombi wrote in an email. Some team members were also on a team that won a world championship in 2008, a tournament of champions in Florida in 2019, was runner-up at Worlds in 2018, and won several Northwest regionals over the years.
