The North Idaho Cross Country team (NIXC) is preparing to compete against elite runners from across the country — at the National AAU Championship in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, and the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship in Lexington, Ky., on Dec 12-13. Twenty North Idaho athletes ages 9-14 will compete in one or both races. "AAU and USATF have done a great job implementing staggered races, masked starts, and spectator limitations to make this low-risk sport the safest it can be. We feel lucky to have the opportunity to compete,” NIXC coach Erin Lydon Hart said. “These kids have earned it. I am so proud of their tenacity, flexibility and hard work. It truly is unbelievable to me how adaptable they are. We have no doubt teams from across the country will remember this fast little team in red from North Idaho." NIXC was founded in Coeur d’Alene in 2005. The club’s mission then and now is to inspire and train talented youth runners seeking to compete at the USATF Jr. Olympic National Championship. North Idaho XC attracts athletes from Rathdrum, Hayden, Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Liberty Lake and Spokane Valley. In the front row from left are Davey Dance, Will Wood, Paisley Ray, Paige Dance and Olivia Abbey; second row from left, Ann Marie Dance, Parker Sterling, Sam Mandel, Zara Munyer, Adalyn Depew, Rowan Henry, Nick Ray, Mitchell Rietze and Wyatt Carr; and back row from left, Ethan Hickock, Kyle Rohlinger, Max Cervi-Skinner, coach Erin Lydon Hart, Zach Cervi-Skinner and Elliana Rietze.
