The Spokane Junior Chiefs 10 and under youth hockey team, featuring some players and coaches from the Coeur d’Alene area, has been invited to the prestigious Fargo International Squirt Invitational. At the event, the Junior Chiefs will face international teams, as well as teams from Canada and the U.S. The Junior Chiefs, competing under the umbrella of the Spokane Area Youth Hockey Association, has a record of 36-6-1 this season, facing teams from Utah, Oregon, Montana and British Columbia to date. It has been more than 20 years since a Spokane team has been asked to participate in this tournament. The last time Spokane sent a 10U team to Fargo for this event, one of the members of that team was Tysen Azevedo, now 30, and the head coach of the current team. One of the assistant coaches is Lee Nagle of Post Falls, who started coaching three of these boys -- Landon Nagle, David Aggen (Coeur d’Alene) and Matthew Latscha (Coeur d’Alene) -- when they were 5 years old in Coeur d’Alene. The team has started a Facebook page titled Spokane Jr. Chiefs 10U A-1. In the front row from left are Drayson Fields and Alison LeBret; second row from left, Henry Anselmo, David Aggen, Brayden Smith, Will Pattison, Jalon Bryant, Jordyn Miller, Landon Nagle, Matthew Latscha, Caden Stoltz, Gavin Smith, Dayton Popple and Akira Ona; and back row from left, Josh Knight, Tysen Azevedo, Lee Nagle and Paxton Bell.
