We Were On A Break, comprised of players from Coeur d’Alene and Spokane, won their adult female bracket at the recent Hoopfest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in downtown Spokane. From left are Megan Dean (formerly of North Central High), Jenna Place (ex-Central Valley), Cierra Dvorak (ex-Lake City) and Bria Bowton (ex-Ferris High.). All four have played together since third grade in AAU and on traveling teams. They separated and played basketball for their respective high schools. They separated again when each of them left for college — Megan Dean (Western Washington), Jenna Place (Seattle Pacific), Cierra Dvorak (North Idaho College, who recently signed a letter of intent with NCAA Division II University of Nebraska Kearney), and Bria Bowton (University of the Redlands). They took a year break from Hoopfest (hence the team name) and came back together again this year, making this the sixth time winning a bracket at Hoopfest together. They started Day 1 by beating “Fresh Princesses” and “Shotline Bling”. Day 2 was a rough battle, they said, and blood was seen in their wins against “Four BS” and “DeJaVu”. They lost in the first championship game, but came back in the “if necessary” game to win by a large margin against “BFS.”
