Helped by former Post Falls High and University of Idaho standout Connor Hill, the Kodiak Cakes went 5-0 to win their men’s adult standard bracket at Hoopfest in Spokane last weekend. From left are Dan Daviess of Danville, Calif.; Westin Hill of Bakersfield, Calif.; Sam Marcus of Bakersfield and Connor Hill of Post Falls.
Said Marcus: “Our first game was an eye-opener because we got matched up against a very physical team that had us trailing nearly most of the game. After we pulled that victory, we never turned back.” Kodiak Cakes trailed 18-12 in its semifinal game (first team to 20 wins), and went on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 19. Connor Hill sealed the game with a game-winning layup. The Cakes won the title game 24-22 in overtime. “What we lacked for in size, we made up in hard work and I know that’s why we’re able to come out on top,” Marcus said.
