U.S. Navy Captain Mervyn S. Bennion (1887-1941) was living near Preston, Idaho, when accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy, later losing his life during the attack on Pearl Harbor and receiving the Medal of Honor posthumously.

Three of 'Greatest Generation' from small Idaho town earned Medal of Honor
There’s something special about the small town of Preston in Franklin County in the southeast corner of Idaho with its population of 5,200: In World War II, three of its townsfolk gave their lives for their country and received the Medal of Honor — America’s highest military decoration.
