The North Idaho Inferno boys ’04 soccer team finished second at the Three Blind Refs tournament in Kalispell, Mont., this past weekend. After winning their first two games 6-0 and 7-0, Inferno found itself trailing 1-0 midway into the second half in the bracket finals game against Missoula. Evan Brinkmeier then tied the game on a powerful 40-yard free kick that found the upper corner of the net. Moments later, Inferno took the lead for good when James Waters’ corner kick was headed by Zachary Engelson to Ethan Wood, who then “headed” the ball himself into the back of the net. Ethan Johnson added the game-clinching goal on a breakaway with just minutes left in the game. In the championship game, the Inferno lost to Calgary, Canada 4-0. In the front row from left are Ethan Wood, James Waters, Michael Johnson, Coalby Calkins and Tyler Engelson; second row from left, Wyatt Smalley, Ethan Johnson, Lance Gilmor, Kael McGowan, Evan Brinkmeier, Braedon Rogers, Ross Lindhorst, Jack Meehan and Zachary Engelson; and rear, coaches Chris Smalley, Felix McGowan and Wade Engelson.
