Bill Greenwood, parks superintendent for the City of Coeur d’Alene, left, and Fred McMurray position a sculpture made from McEuen Park’s original Freedom Tree as artist Jeff May, far right, operates a lift Thursday near the new dedicated tree at the park. The original tree was planted near McEuen Park in an effort to stop development of Tubbs Hill and was rededicated in 1972 for McMurray, a prisoner of war. The sculpture, that includes a flag, a pair of eagles and the words “Freedom” and “Return with Honor” was completed by May in about two months.
