<p>Thomas Wiley, a Sandpoint resident and long time blood donor, gets his blood drawn at the Inland Northwest Blood Center on Neider Avenue Friday. "I have some extra blood to give," says Wiley who makes the commute to Coeur d'Alene every 58 days or so to make his donation.</p>

Management programs, scientific developments cited
COEUR d'ALENE - The demand for blood is on the decline in area hospitals, due largely to the implementation of blood-management programs that have existed for more than a decade but have only recently begun being used nationwide.
